    Unleaded or Premium Unleaded

Just a question, with like new bikes, etc who puts Prem Unleaded in their bikes unless its stated in the manual, and will it hurt the engine?

Shouldn't do, it's not like it's a completely different kind of fuel, it's just more refined. I go as high an octane (98) as I can, even with the awful petrol prices that still works out to be under $20 so it doesn't bother me. Burns cleaner and all that.

if changing over fucked up your bike engine, it would do the same thing to a car. because bp reccommends CHANGING your car to ultimate i cant see how changing would hurt the bike.
PSB - It doesn't matter how right you are. If you aren't in with the crowd who thinks they are the in crowd because they post a lot, then you are wrong.

    *sniff* that smells like regular...
    she needs premium duuude
    PREMIUUUUUUUUUUM!!!

seriously now though.... put what it says in the manual, it should have a recommended RON octane rating...
The japs have better pump fuel than us so if its a jap bike (especially grey import) I would run premium all the time to ensure lack of ping and max power, any other highly strung sports bike I would do the same...

if its tuned to run on a lowish octane then putting a higher RON fuel in won't do damage (you will just be throwing away your money though) however if its tuned to run premium then definately run premium

I always use Premium as i have seen what kind of crap comes out of my cars fuel filter thats only run on regular unleaded.

It doesn't matter when you switch to premium the different grades of fuel are compatible and won't make any difference.

Depending on your bike, it may "require" premium.

Particularly if its a sports bike, they're high compression, high performance motors.

Its what... $1/tank difference dude.... just get the decent fuel
    stuff

See above, I would do a bit of research first before being wrong on the internet.

Bingo. High compression, high performance bikes need the extra RON, it stop pinging and detonation. Running 98RON on a CBR/VTR/Ninja/whatever 250 is just a complete waste of time.
No offence to owners of these bikes intended at all but they are low performance engines designed to run forever on an oily rag, you will see no benefit between regular and premium.
And no, your engine won't run cleaner on higher RON fuel.

rayray, I wasn't calling you a noob, well, I was, but you obviously want to learn as you asked a good question.
Just read your manual and run what it says, unleaded I would imagine.
