    VTR 250 - test ride

going to look at a VTR250 for a mate this arvo ...

not knowing a whole lot about these, anything in particular on the 07 model I should look out for on the bike?

Considering the bike has 5000km on it I'm thinking as long as he kept service up on it there should be fuck all wrong with it.

hopefully it stayed right side up for whole 5000 too.

check the choke is working properly and that it starts first time from cold.

only thing i can think of, never had a problem with mine but the guy who bought it reckons another he looked at seemed to flood very easily!

I just traded same model, 2 years, 20 thou km's.. no problems, unless there is something obvious, they seem bulletproof
Better to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow

i have the 07 model... they are bulletproof.. buy it provided it straight

the contact points when they fall over at low speed are the pedals ($40 and $60 a side cant remember which), bar ends/levers ($12 each), the leading left/right edges of the front fairing ($100 to repaint), the indicator stalks ($15), instrument panel surround ($120)
so yeah, pretty cheap to fix up

Or you could go all out and make like finn/rudleo did in the event of a prangprang.

That's odd, I don't remember any of the second-generation VTRs having fairings.

There was a recall on the 07 VTR250 for the carb but that's covered in richie_b's post about making sure it starts cold and the choke works, may be worth asking about regarding service history though just to make sure it was done.

solid bike hey not much can go wrong and even if it does its cheap to fix. Had electrical probs with mine, but was solved quickly and cheaply (under 200). So if it looks good, runs good and price right you've gotten yourself a great learner bike
