    When asking for a shadow....

Please use your manners. Words like appreciate and please are great words! I suggest you guys doing your tests use them...and also another suggestion leaving it to the last minute isnt smart.

Just a little community announcement from FG.

    +1.

Also, if you change your mind or you're no longer able to go for a ride for some reason, it's polite to advise your shadow as soon as possible

no probs Alik....I wasnt meaning this to be directed to only you...I do see it all the time with the Shodow requests....no one ever asks politely, and most are always URGENT....and I guess im a little over seeing it.

As a shadow requester I was surprised to hear it was rather unusal to offer to fill my shadows tank up pre-cruise a few weeks back. It's a couple of bucks and a nice way to say thanks. As someone said, they are doing us a favour so it's the least we can do to repay them.

That or buy them a burger at the dinner stop etc.

    my 2 cents

Even better still is a PM to someone on the shadow list in the Twofiddy section (I will be posting a new thread in the next day or so, just redesigning and deleting those no longer able to shadow) , the personal approach with a please goes down even better but for those last minute ones where your Instructor can't be with you or your mate (your regular shadow) has got called into work, post a special thread and don't get upset if you don't manage to get a shadow.

Shadow's do prefer to have seen you on a ride or know of you from someone else, otherwise it seems like you're just using them.

Offer your shadow what you will, they can then say "no worries buddy, you'll get to pay it back later" or thanks mate, I'll have a burger or fuel

Thanks, Colleen, I was starting to ignore all those posts lately, except for the LNR's, just because of the wording and 'apparent' attitude. Ask Louise
I actually thought I was being overly sensitive, so I'm glad someone else has noticed it too.
Thanks to Alex ^^^^ for fueling my bike the other week, too. Glad it didn't send him broke, but it restored my faith in people and my choice to help them out.

Really without you guys we cant go anywhere so why wouldn't you be grateful that someone is happy to swing by and pick you up!?

I think those expecting to be "shadowed" don't realise that its just every day people offering to do shadowing not a PSB Employee...

I am more than happy to shadow people and quite happy to travel.
But I think you need to pass the attitude test and be able to have the necessary skills required.
It is nice to get dinner or fuel as a thank you but not necessary. I was un aware of how expensive $$$$$ lessons were and to go for a ride for hours with your pals for free. WE do this out of the kindness of our hearts and more times than not go out of our way to pick up and drop off which is KOOL.
The most important thing is to be ready the time and nice to us (don't fuck us around) cos no one else will pick you up if are hard work

I dont shadow as i think i need another year BUT i dont get why people are so sencetive about this. It all seems that it comes down to how they worded something on the internet forum and lot of people are not very good at the net talk/lingo (i am learing as well).

I mean all these guys that didnt ask politly, i mean were they polite when you went and met them or were they an arse?

What i am trying to say. I thought shadows were something guys done for the comunity and they dont expect anything and only satisfaction they get is knowing that they passed on some road craft to the next generation.

Or am i way of the mark?

Yes you are off the mark.

T-bone worded it perfectly. Please don't fuck us around, and make sure you have enough money with you to refuel you bike. Don't expect anything for it, just a bit of gratitude. Thanks for raising this Fastgirl.

Fucking people around and forgetting to say please in the original post are 2 very different things.

All i was saying it that some guys are not very good at the net talk/lingo and they might forget/not think to say please. BUT if they are rude when you meet them OR they do fuck shadows around then fuck them let them pay for the lessons.

Ha ha I had wondered about some of the posts I'd seen for shadows. If people aren't good at please and thankyou they should start learning. It's not hard!
Click here to see my Ducati 999R in the PSB garage... You'll love it!

Don't click here to see my ZX9R aka The Ginger Ninja... there's no link!
