    zx10 v R1 (both 08)

Just wondering if anyone has riden both the 08 R1 and 08 ZX10. I have found one of each for sale at a similar price but have only riden both on the road.

Can anyone compare the two from experiance at Barbagallo?

A bit of surfing has revealed a couple decent reviews by Motorcycle.com (USA) and MCN (UK). It appears that the R1 handles well and the ZX10 has a mind blowing engine. Overall the ZX10 is ranked higher than the R1.

Apparently the older ZX10s handled badly and now handle better,,,, but do they handle as well as the R1? Can anyone shed some light without personal bias?

    Cheers
    Frosty

Without being rude... why would you trust the opinion of uneducated amateur riders vs. that of experienced riders reviewing them under controlled conditions ?

Wouldn't you just be better off going to a dealer and riding them yourself and making your own decision... or just flipping a coin ?

I'm not sure how you expect to get an opinion from a mass of people with so many variables without some form of personal bias being miseducation, preference or ignorance.

If the testers were contactable, I would gladly ask them. What I really want to know is "does the new ZX10 handle as well as the R1" Yeh, its improved on the older model but by how much?

Yes i have tested both on the road but would not push either as much as I would on the track so how else could the question be answered? Both salesmen are going to bullshit me and bag the oposing bike anyway.

Just putting it out there and hopefully someone that has riden riden both at the track can shedsome light.

And perhaps, if your the only response then maybye a coin will be tossed.

I honestly don't think that there will be too many people locally that will have ridden both the R1 and ZX10R at the track, as there aren't too many people that test bikes on the track in WA. And if any local racers have, both bikes are likely to have been significantly modified at that point for racing, so the comparison between the two is irrelevant to your original request anyway.....

But that's not what he's asking, Little Miss Condescending.

JF- I've taken both for a ride, but it was all within 20 minutes of the causeway bike shops, so it's fairly tough to push anything. Between the two, I thought the R1 rode a little nicer, but that easily could have been my subconscious steering me away from the dog-ugly ZX.

I don't really get this, aren't you the advocate of the RGV and CBargggghhh600 because of their great handling attributes?

The question isn't going to be answered well on here I feel, but surely if you are looking at tracking a bike you would want the best handler whether you can push it's limits or not....

In terms of the ZX10 I have only seen one on the road and they have been out what 6 months or more?

I know its dog ugly but you have to wonder why no one is buying them if the are supposed to be so darn good.

Ive always advocated that kwakas are just bad bikes.

I rode an 07 zx6 last night for a mate and it had spongy back brakes, a mush as hell gear box and a few other things that werent nice.

I obviously cant help you cos I dont ride track but in order to tell maybe have a look at how many zx10s are currently used on the track.

Are there more r1s or equal or what. If there is as many on the track as there is on the road then you will be hard pressed to find someone that actually rides one.

But I may just be unlucky, has anyone else seen any riding round on the road?

There are definitely more R1's around, but that could also be due to Yamaha having a larger fan base. The ZX-10 was just plain wrong for a while, but then it got (from what I read) much better with the '08 version. Personally, I would have thought that the R1 would have been the way to go, coz what's power without control? Maybe the ZX-10 is much better then the 07 (not hard from what I hear), but better then the R1 in one year? That's a big call.

Thro and DoctorRossi, Jack Frost has made 7 posts...do you know how he actually rides to be able to say that both bikes can outhandle him?

Forget the ZX and R1 - the 08 CBR1000RR is the best bike I have ever ridden on the track.

    WORD!

Ask Kev what he thinks. He did win a B grade championship on his. I think Glenn Allerton is kinda fond of his as well.

BTW, the stock suspension on just about any bike will hold you back if you are serious about racing.

Well yes, but when comparing litre bikes (against other litre bikes, not RGV vs litre or whatever)... either one of those will have abilities far beyond mere mortals.

Sure, the RGV, 600s, etc flick from side to side quicker, but in terms of reaching limits i don't think many people here (or many people, full stop) can claim to be able to out-ride their bike.

The answer was somewhat facetious anyway, because comparing the two bikes (of the same class) on paper without riding them, or relying on someone elses opinion is a waste of time.

I mean, on paper, the 07 ZX6-R and CBR600RR were supposed to be pretty close for example.

Thing is, I can't stand the ZX6-R to sit on.... i found that out as soon as i went looking at them seriously at dealerships, etc... so even if it was a better handling bike (on paper), i couldn't live with it.

Go ride them, make up your own mind. The "either one will out handle you" comment was more in reference to the fact that whichever one you buy, you're not going to have a bike that is going to limit you....

Let me put this in a simple analogy...

    R1 = Kate Beckinsale
    Zx10 = Dawn French

I know which one I'd rather ride....
