Yeah I honestly can see the injustice there but also think about the time this guy is going to spend in jail, even 4 years is going to feel like a lifetime with what is going to happen to him. I mean, I got my drivers license like 5 years ago now, and while that is a happy memory and I have a happy life, it still feels fucking ages ago, just imagine how long that 4 years is gonna be for him, they are gonna be the most miserable years of his life and they are gonna drag by even slower than labourers getting paid $50 an hour.... now that's slow

No decent person wouldn't want this piece of shit permenantly removed from the community.

He'll get 7 years, tops.

He'll be placed in a behaviour modification program.

He'll likely offend again, though there's a chance he may not.

The problem is not so much the ineffectiveness of rehabilitation on certain offenders, it's the piss-weak sentencing guidelines we have in place at present.

Yep. I'm against state sanctioned capital punishment. But as I said, I'm happy to support the victims in extracting retribution.

Yes, I know it's a lop sided argument but that's fine with me. Someone does that to my daughter (or sons) and I should get the say on what happens. If I choose to walk away, then let him rot in prison.

They're not the same. One is STATE sanctioned and the other is vigilante. Do you really trust this Government (with their history of playing games with people lives) to make a call like that. FFS judges can't even work out if people should go to gaol or not.

I know a women in this position (abused very early in life) and she still struggles with it, 30 odd years later...

Which is why I said that it still needs to be longer than 4 10 or 15 years. I said it must feel like an eternity for him, an eternity is an eternity, you cant compare it with anything else. But the thing is that even if we were to take his life with capital punishment the damage is done, she will never get over it, lets just hope that she will be able to go about a normal life and grow up to be a somewhat normal young girl.

My view on the death penalty isn't the whole "if we kill them we r no better than them" thing, it is that I personally think that keeping them alive in a small cell with limited human contact for the rest of their life, where you take away their friends and family (sure they get visits but it could hardly be counted) and essentially leave them to rot is much harsher then giving them an easy way out and killing them, unless it is creepy remorseless serial killers, then use your $1 bullet by all means.

I know of a person who was locked up for having large amounts of kiddie porn on his computer.
He rationalised it as being ok because he doesn't actually touch the child, he just looks at the images for enjoyment.
How much enjoyment is the child getting whilst being abused or raped FFS???

Whilst in prison he bragged about the accomodation, the TV and movies, the easy jobs inside and the 'free' quiet life. He also said that as all the paedophiles are locked up together, they talk, compare notes and gain even more tips/knowledge on how to groom and abuse children, and how to possibly get away with it next time. He was relocated to a country town in WA.

Do you really think that by locking them up, or taking away basic human rights that these sicko's are going to suffer??? They still have the memory of the enjoyment they got from their crime....

There is no punishment that befits the crime and even if there was it wouldn't take away what he did to her. This little girl will never get justice for what has happened to her. It's strange as parents, brothers, sisters and friends when we talk hypothetically about these things we always speak first of retribution and revenge - nobody ever speaks of how they'd help the child put the pieces back together.

Not citing your family as an example Deej but in the hypothetical you posted: Would your child be better off with their father behind bars or still in their life?

It's a decision nobody should ever need make but it really boils down to; whose hurt are you trying to avenge?

It is a subject that even though we all discuss here on the forum.....we all wouldnt speak of it face to face. Its not a happy happy subject. It is so heinous that it isnt spoken of.

Ive had conversations with some Mothers....and the continued denial and statements of ''oh none of my friends/family would ever do that'' really does stun me. No one would want to even think that someone they trust would hurt their child...hence....no one speaks of it.

If someone hurts your child...it will be a trusted person. Thats the hard part that most of society struggle to think of.

The leniency in the legal system, makes for more and more sicko's to deceide, yes I 'll do it.
