Adz! Not good to hear - Glenn told me what happz last night ... :-( So long as you're alright. Don't worry about the bike too much, your resident buddy down there is just itching to use that rattle gun on anything he can lay his hands on

Similiar to a standard highside, just a lot quicker, you'd be on the deck before you realise what's happening.

Not having a go, but will fingers on the clutch help?
Seems to me it would just go: back locks and starts to swing around, you pull in clutch, back unlocks and therefore grips, same end result?

Crap, doesn't sound nice at all.
I definitely wouldn't say you fail at riding.
Noone covers their clutch 'just in case my bike seizes'.
Good to see your gear did its job and you're ok.

Can one of you point out what's wrong with my logic then?
i.e. engine seizes, rear locks and slides out, clutch pulled in = rear unlocks and grips = highside anyway
Or is engine seizure something that isn't totally instant and you might have a few splitseconds to pull the clutch in before the back wheel totally locks up?

^^ no i see your logic.
However, what are your other options?
I guess jamming on the front brake to force a lowside is one...
Not having experienced engine seizure yet, I suspect you may get *some* warning of it, but yeah...
If you can clutch it before the back steps out TOO far, you might be able to either reduce the severity of the highside's kick, and maybe even stay on it?

so, all/most/some 2 stroke riders constantly cover the clutch?
As if riding bikes wasn't dangerous enough... you need to be ready for a lock up at any time.
You can have it.

You can still have a lockup on a 4 stroke.
Your hand is generally on the clutch anyway, at least on a 250 2 stroke as you need to clutch it and work the gearbox to get anywhere in a hurry

When I was doing my lessons, I got scowled at for constantly having the clutch covered, even when I wasn't expecting to change, but this makes me think I had the right idea first time 'round.
Assuming the bike isn't a writeoff, here's hoping you're not too scared to sit on her again.

No that's it from me people. My riding days are over.
It's been fun though.
