Australia to get first female G-G

AUSTRALIA is to have its first female governor-general, with the announcement that Queensland's governor, Quentin Bryce, has been appointed to the job.
The announcement came as current Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery handed in his resignation.
Major General Jeffery's current term is due to expire next month.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Ms Bryce would become Australia's 25th governor-general.
Ms Bryce, who was appointed the 24th Governor of Queensland in July 2003, had been an inspiring governor, serving with great distinction, Mr Rudd said.
"Ms Bryce has an outstanding record of service to the entire Australian community," he said in a statement.
"She is highly qualified for the role of governor-general. Ms Bryce has enjoyed a rich and dynamic career as a lawyer, academic and senior public office holder."
Her former roles include federal sex discrimination commissioner, inaugural director of the Queensland Women's Information Service and founding chair and chief executive of the National Childcare Accreditation Council.
Ms Bryce has been appointed to a five-year term.

Quentin is a girls name now?
Oh well, it's great to see broads on the bench
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.
Yeah, diverse roles like:Yep, some pretty damned diverse roles there.
- inaugural director of the Queensland Women's Information Service, 1984-87 (women's interests);
- Queensland director of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commision (predominantly incorporating women's interests);
- federal sex discrimination commissioner, 1988-93 (women's interests);
- founding chair and chief executive of the National Childcare Accreditation Council, 1993-96 (women's/parents' interests); and
- principal and chief executive officer of The Women's College, the only all-female residential college at the University of Sydney, 1997-2003 (women's interests).
While Ms Bryce's statement of today implies that her appointment as Governor-General reflects our greater acceptance of women in senior roles in public life, her CV suggests that we only like them performing roles to which they can bring their experience of "womanhood".
Yeah, first thing i did was go "ugg" fem-nazi. But in the end "broads on the bench" aint all that bad, real question is... would you hit it?
If only she was about 300 years younger; at least then we'd have even odds of her cracking the shits every 28 days and firing the PM in an emotional hissy fit.
(Oh yeah, chicks dig menstruation jokes.)

Am I the only one who thinks they appoint old people to these positions because "they'll be dead soon anyway"?
So we have a woman governor general. Big fucking deal.
but will she be able to do the cooking cleaning and house work and still do this job properly?
Madoga +1
"Redlines are merely suggestions"
"Stroked is fun, but I'ld rather get blown"

I really hate the way they are making a big deal about the fact she is a woman. All government departments and businesses do this too cause they want the street cred that goes with it.
I couldnt care less if someone is male/female/black/white/dwarf/or Heather Mills.....if they are the best candidate for the given job, then they deserve the position. I just hope this woman was given the position because she is the best candidate, not because Krudd thought it would be good to have a woman.

There is no offence under Australian law that criminalises the act of arriving in
Australia or the seeking of asylum without a valid visa.
A lot of giving women these type of jobs has to do with equal oportunity, and "being seen" to break the glass ceiling.
most workplaces have to keep a certain number of coloured people, females and even fat people to keep equal oportunity and anti racial types of their back
Heheheheheheh.

So we now have a Queen and a female GG.Their plan is beginning to come to fruition. Didnt see any on the grid last night tho'.
They hung a sign up in our town "If you live it up, you won't live it down"-Tom Waits
Do we even need a GG? Apart from token symbolic appearances and duties why do we need another bureaucrat?
