BRISBANE, Oct 25 AAP - Up to 30 tonnes of beer and munchies were
lost when two freight trucks collided on the Bruce Highway in
central Queensland.
In a devastating sight for beer lovers, tonnes of the amber
liquid - primarily XXXX Gold - as well as countless boxes of
biscuits and potato chips were strewn across the highway yesterday
following the collision about 50 kilometres south of Rockhampton.
The crash occurred around 3am (AEST) after one of the trucks
reportedly veered onto the wrong side of the road, causing the
other truck to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision.
"When I arrived at 3.30am (AEST) there was beer and bickies for
about 40 or 50 metres down the road, " Mt Larcom Police Station
officer-in-charge Alistair Mearns said today.
Neither driver was seriously injured but it took about 12 hours
for the debris to be cleaned up and the accident left one lane
closed to traffic for most of the day.
