BRISBANE, Oct 25 AAP - Up to 30 tonnes of beer and munchies were
lost when two freight trucks collided on the Bruce Highway in
    central Queensland.
In a devastating sight for beer lovers, tonnes of the amber
liquid - primarily XXXX Gold - as well as countless boxes of
biscuits and potato chips were strewn across the highway yesterday
following the collision about 50 kilometres south of Rockhampton.
The crash occurred around 3am (AEST) after one of the trucks
reportedly veered onto the wrong side of the road, causing the
other truck to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision.
"When I arrived at 3.30am (AEST) there was beer and bickies for
about 40 or 50 metres down the road, " Mt Larcom Police Station
    officer-in-charge Alistair Mearns said today.
Neither driver was seriously injured but it took about 12 hours
for the debris to be cleaned up and the accident left one lane
closed to traffic for most of the day.

That's my old neck of the woods. You can see Mt Larcom from my parents house.

What a bugger! Well, apart from the XXXX gold, that deserves to be destroyed.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

the xxxx gold may pose a hazard to the natural environment

    good riddance to bad rubbish.

No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.

Yeah it's XXXX... No big tragedy.
The munchies is a bit of a shame... But overall I think this was ok (collateral damage and the greater good.)
Maybe the driver of the truck was doing everyone a favour and saving them from the tragedy that is XXXX Gold?

Don't call me spawn of satan...
I may be the spawn of Satan,
    but I have a name!

I'd be licking the pavement, sure there is broken glass but it's free beer...

As for the XXXX, you're going to have people having 2 headed rat babies in that area as it's just like agent orange, but even then that's ok, it's Brisbane, they'll fit in with all the other 2 headed rat babies.

I remember seeing this sort of shit happen several years ago on Nicholson Rd in Langford and Patterson Road in Kwinana Beach...the funny thing about the Kwinana one was one side of the carriageway was closed and the cops and fireies and cleanup mob were all waving their arms around trying to work out who was doing what and amongst it all was one old Aboriginal bloke sitting in the middle of the median strip drinking whatever hadnt been smashed

Do feel sorry for the environment though
However, FJ and Uncle Ho (MyFX) are 2 examples of people that dont fit this genre but fit into the forum well as well respected members.

Cocaine washes up on European beaches
    Wednesday Oct 25 21:32 AEST
Police have seized around a tonne of cocaine washed ashore on Portuguese and Spanish beaches after storms hit Iberia, Portuguese police said.

More than 800kg of packed cocaine was found on beaches in the north of Portugal and another 175kg in the Spanish region of Galicia, Portuguese police inspector Carlos Garcia said.

"About 800kg of cocaine have been found on Portuguese beaches and there might be more on the way," Garcia said. "We have still not determined the origin of the drugs."

Actually, this reminds me of a Tropfest short I have on a DVD somewhere about a similar incident - a truck carrying a load of beer overturned into a river near a small town.

Took the locals a few weeks but they "rescued" every unbroken bottle.

    ...then they "rescued" the contents...

Ummm I think it has something to do with the wonderful premier we have. Every time he is told of a road needing repairs he calls his mates up and gets them to do impact assessments. After 6-12 months the assessment is finished and decides the road needs to be fixed but due to the budget for the impact assessment being blown out there is no longer any funds for roadworks. Oh and the bridges off the Pacific freeway keep breaking - Much more important than a national highway.
