Strangely not the heaviest impact I've seen on a track, and guys have walked away from less. The fact that he hit the fence rather than the wall was probably not helpful. Guess that's how it goes sometimes though...

At least the crash is never remembered, he is forever doing what he loves in is own mind...

Really? You've seen a car travel 196 metres at 340kmh and hit the fence cockpit-first so hard it sheared the roll hoop off the top of the car and left the driver's head completely exposed?
We all know you race, and that you're pretty damn good at it, but don't dribble shit.

In fairness, it is also not the heaviest hit I have seen in motorsport either. It is very far up the list though and I wouldn't expect anyone to walk away from a similar accident.
We are small and exposed, and probably moving too fast for our own good, but that's no reason not to enjoy every minute of the ride.

I don't think you'll find many initial impacts that have the speed and ferocity of that. 220mph, 340kph is big speed. I saw it live in real time, slow motion doesn't do it justice.

Granted... I also saw the crash at full speed and it was extraordinarily quick. I just don't feel it is the hardest impact I have seen.

Regardless, this is just a pointless argument. A brilliant man died in a horrific crash and I hope he may rest in peace.

True enough, but I came to grief at less than 60kph and spent three years in a wheelchair. Oh and Desmo, you are a sarcastic bastard, I do like that in a man.

Was going to put this in a PM but Agrid's box is full:

    Precious?

Today I had to write four stories about a man who died in a race car, in the sport I make my money out of. And while I didn't know him, I had to do those stories while consoling people who I do know, and who did know Dan very well. Those people were distraught.
Over the telephone, over Skype, watching them bawl their eyes out and hearing them ask me, with their voices quivering, if IndyCar can survive this tragedy.
Then, some smart arse little upstart wants to jump up and mouth off about how it wasn't that big a crash, and you think I'm precious?

Well excuse fucking me, but I feel absolutely justified.

Seriously, who the fuck cares whether or not you've seen a bigger crash or not? A man is dead, his wife, a two-year old and a seven-month old baby are left behind. Keep your ego-driven bleating to yourself.

Geez resist. It's the internet. Stop trying to win an arguement. Move on.
