"This would also include the development of a graduated rider training and licensing system for motorcyclists."
Isn't something like this already in place! Yet a 17yr old can get hes licence and next day drive around in a Highpowered car.
What about trining car drivers to NOTICE MOTORCYCLES!!!

"The move comes despite overwhelming evidence to suggest that the quickest and most effective way to curb the road toll is by dropping speed limits, including research that showed 5500 less people would be killed or serioulsy injured if overall speed limits were reduced by 10km/h across WA"
Where the fuck did this evidence come from, it says sweeden!, we live in fucking australia, how bout some evidence from the place where its going to effect!
i really dont understand how people comeup with these no sense ideas, dont care how many years you goto uni or college or where ever, if you come up with a statement like that your shithouse of qualifications should be revoked!

As long as you get a good outcome, it doesn`t matter where the evidence comes from, but is it accurate? Statistics can be read in different ways. What was the speedlimit in Sweden before it was dropped by 10km/h? If it was, say, 130km/h, do we now raise our speed limit to match Swedens limit? I don`t think so. We can curb the roadtoll to zero if we want to. But then it is walking pace everywhere...

We don't have long distance to travel. Slowing people down won't mean they have to spend longer driving, giving them more time to get tired and lose concentration.
Making them slower won't mean subconciously they think they are safer and less at risk, so concentrate even less.
And my arse tastes like butterscotch.

The answer is simple:
Make people afraid of driving again. Not afraid of being booked, but afraid of being killed. Bring back the grim reaper on the curb.
Remind people that driving is a dangerous and potentially fatal activity that should be treated with respect and deserves 100% attention at all times.

The report is modelled on road safety practices in Sweden, where there is a road death rate of 4.5 people per 100,000 population - compared to 10.1 people per 100,000 population in WA.

well in sweden they probably drive cars 50% less as it is dark half the fucking year, snowing for more than a third of it, and everyone drives volvos!!! Besides everyone knows sweden has a collective IQ of about 6.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.
Funniest thing tho is that for all the "Safety Measures" that have been put in place over the years nothing changes

"*To replace corporate and Government fleet vehicles with cars that have electronic stability controls, which take over control if a vehicle runs off the road, as well as intelligent speed adaptation systems, that are linked to global positioning systems, and sound an alarm for the driver when the car is travelling over the speed limit."
I think the cops should have this too.

Did my link take me to a different article than you lot? i cant see in there anywhere about the motorcycle graduated training system.
It also says doro is NOT pushing for the dropping of speed limits, its kobelke that said that might come into it, from what i read it seemed pretty positive stuff, except for getting monash involved, they are the wankers that come out with lower speeds and speed cameras are the answer.

"Towards Zero recognises that while some people deliberately take risks, there are many more people that are simply making mistakes on our roads and people should have to die or be seriously injured as a result,'' Mr Dorrington said.
|
is it just me or hasnt the majority of actual actions the ORS has taken been focussed at deiberate risk takers ie hoons?
yet here is a quote from dorro saying that many more people are dying as a result of human error than deliberate risk taking.
i am trying to think of anything that the ORS has actually 'done' that didnt involve advertising campaigns aimed against people doing burnouts, speeding and drink driving.

Where is the support for the stuff that RAC was advertising, safer shoulders, more lights, less flood spots. THAT stuff will help.
I dont like the RAC... but if they are going to ACTUALLY get something done that doesnt involve us all driving at 20km/h on the freeway.. I will be pleased.

This is a very good idea - seriously. And it can be achieved by one thing - increasing speed limits where safe to do so. There's no better way to increase attention to what you're doing than adding fear into the mix. I remember driving down UK motorways at between 90 to 100mph (160kph) because that's the speed that most people were doing back then, and it sure as help made me concentrate a lot more than farting down the road at 100kph. 20 years of doing that and i'm still alive, plus you never saw any white crosses at the side of a perfectly straight road where some inattentive tool had lost control and wiped themselves out. Drivers in Perth need to wake the fuck up - period.
