FORUM DOWNTIME THIS WEEKEND - NEW FORUM PROGRAM

Some time between 5PM Friday 7 January and Sunday 9 January I will be introducing a new forum program to PSB. The current forum software we are using (phpbb) is beginning to show its limitations now that the board is growing substantially bigger. The little security flaw found by the Worm over Xmas has also diminished my confidence in this system.

The new forum software that will be installed is called Invision Power Board (www.invisionboard.com). This software has some excellent features that will help everyone such as a postable event calendar (http://demo.invisionboard.com/v2/index.php?act=calendar).

As we convert across, the forum will be down for up to 4 hours. All posts, usernames and passwords will be converted across, however, the permissions and usergroups may not convert across and therefore will need to be manually reconstructed. This may take some time so if you are trying to access the Certified section or if the girls are trying to access the Kitchen, it may not be accessible for a few hours even after the new system has gone live.

Invision is a paid licence so therefore they also assist with priority support, which will be of benefit to us all.

    Luv
    Deej

Cool, I take it we PM you if we still can't get access to certified etc.. by Monday, or if there are any other bugs we've detected

is it still running on PHP/SQL?

All I can say is job well done on the proactive approach to the forum. Anyone else who takes care of a forum would most likely have the attitude of "whatever, she'll be right". I'm sure this will pay off.
Right now Im having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think Ive forgotten this before.

ughhhhhhh... its so painfull to use notice how very few sites there are running it..

Besides the worm what limitations are you finding in PHPBB ?

vBulletin has waaaayyyy better (comunity) support and in my opinion better options for user interface.

I don't mean to complain, just curious.

ive noticed invision to be nicer and quicker than phpbb in most circumstances ive seen, and plus quite a bit nicer to integrate stuff into from own experience

also, vbulletin is quite a bit more expensive than the paid version of invision

Thanks for the offer Dubs, Gordo. AS GPX Gal said Supporting PSB is the best way to do your bit. I paid for Invision out of the PSB Supporters PayPal account using the money that those people who are supporters kindly donated. I still have US$80 left to spend on mods! I'm witch!! witch I tell u !!!

    So thanks.
