Unfortunatly MRA is almost non excistent anymore. This could happen in perth if enough people were involved.
The problem is that it's illegal for a paying motorbike to occupy a car parking spot, period, in Perth. Even if there's 4 of them, and they're ALL paying full price. Some inspectors clearly see the stupidity and ignore the letter of the law, but not all.

If we were to protest by parking bikes in all the car bays, you can just smell the money coming in from fines as they instruct all inspectors to 'pounce'; they'd encourage us to protest as often as possible in that case.

On the flipside, a car that parks over 4 or 5 bike bays only pays the one fine, however.

Not just parking, in the 15 years I've been here I can't remember any decent protests about anything. Correct me if I'm wrong.

There's been mention on PSB for 'civil disobedience' and the like, but I don't see that it would ever happen. The internet filter is enough of a cause, but still nothing sizable.

What is it with Australians (me included) that they don't take action? The government has nothing to fear.

Yeah. Europeans are far more inclined to protest about what they see at a reduction of their rights. Australians generally have it pretty good, we've not been exposed to conflict, we have rights, etc etc etc, so we are pretty non-fussed with most things.

Small population spread over large area also means less impact when people do protest.

They tried to introduce parking meters to the Paris streets several years ago, the people smashed them quicker than the authorities could fix them.

Ummm, Have any of you even read the OP link?
The law they are trying to introduce is to stop motorbikes splitting and filtering, not parking.

I think I was there for that one and am saddened every time I hear people talking about protest rides, because they just don't happen here.

I suggest we start a chapter of the FFMC - the French Federation of Angry Bikers here and follow their lead! Rebel people!!

There's many people saying that protests never happen in Perth.. That's because we're all sitting here discussing how they never happen, rather than organizing them

They look like very well thought out protests though - especially where they take up the space of a car..

Doesn't have to be a protest ride as such?....Just a mass show of strength from motorcyclists in WA to show others we still have a place on the road's.
Perhaps to make a point that we too pay 'on road cost's,taxes, insurances and such like and do contribute a small' amount to the revenue Nazi's who run our life's here through enforcement and persecution simply for enjoying a past time that has been around since the day's of steam.
Slowly they are taking control of how we piss and shit each day, draconian pollies who go home each day, beat their kid's and spank little children for kick's....lets fuck a few more motorcyclists over with focussing the attention on them about how much money we could of raped them for if we spent a bit more of taxpayers money on expensive camera's to photograph them from behind....
Don't bother about the millions we spend on wire ropes along the freeway..If they are stupid enough to ride bikes then who gives a fuck if they fall off and get cheese wired...I know... lets even leave unsealed sections of road works covered in ball bearing gravel and see how those wannabee racers go riding on that...or even paint the white lines with real slippy Dulux and have a laugh when it rains.

Better still lets employ some bikie hating dweeb to come up with media propaganda and incorrect statistical crap to prove a point that without a metal frame and glass around you with a wheel in each corner you stand more chance of getting hurt on a bike...ie:

In 2008 there were 36 motorcycle fatalities.
30% of motorcyclists and pillion passengers involved in police reported crashes in Western Australia in 2007 were seriously injured (killed or hospitalised.) For drivers and passengers of cars the figure was 3%.
There was an average of 60 serious crashes per 10,000 registered motorcycles in Western Australia over the period 1998-2007. The equivalent figure for passenger vehicles was 19.8 serious crashes.
Between 2003 and 2007 single vehicle crashes represented about 33% of all motorcycle crashes and tended to be the more serious, just under 40% involving serious injury.
About 61% of motorcycle crashes involved another vehicle, mainly passenger vehicles.
88% of motorcyclists involved in serious crashes between 2003 and 2007 were male.
Riders 21-29 years of age accounted for 27% of serious injuries.
Riders over 30 years of age, accounted for 56% of those seriously injured.
Just over a third (34%) of crashes were at a relatively low speed, 30 – 50km/h on impact.
    What a load of bolllock's!!

Ever noticed how much attention the average Sunday ride get's when twenty or so bikes are heading out...everyone stop's and takes stares..yet everyday thousands of car drivers do the same and no-one gives a shit when the Mitchell/Kwinana/Tonkin is backed up like a car park, other than some newsreader repeating the same old congested areas or the fact that another set of lights are out and to watch out for a truck that has spilt it's load of hazardous waste out the front of a kindy garden somewhere in Riverton...no mention of the hundreds of four or more wheeled accidents that occur everyday, but as soon as a bike goes down,it's good news week??...Propaganda people?...

A lot of people wont support groups who are trying to make a stand and speak up for all riders of any motorcycle here in WA,but like it or not it WILL AFFECT YOU!!

Take a look at Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) in the UK and how they have relentlessly campaigned for years and have eventually been heard through the appropriate channels and implemented changes and recommendations to Governments for improved motorcycle conditions on their roads, more importantly freedom of choice for compulsory helmets..lights on..fluoro vests..fender eliminators,a/m exhausts...you name it and it's there....don't rely on others taking up the fight...the fight is with you as an individual and a motorcylist here in WA.....

I'm sure im not alone in my thoughts on these matters and would love to see the CBD choked to fuck with even a portion of the registered motorcycles in WA would still make a big impact, if only for the recognition..a few banners/flags/sign's sending the message to the media,we are here too on the roads.

    C'mon lets fkn do it.........

Back in November 05ish the government wanted to introduce Rule 151a:

Riding a motor bike alongside a vehicle
“The rider of a motor bike must not ride in a marked lane past the left or right of a vehicle (except another motor bike or a bicycle) that is travelling, or is stationary but not parked, in the marked lane.”

This effectively would stop all filtering and splitting.

The MRA and a few other motorcycle bodies were instrumental in putting this on hold. In Melbourne there were mass rallies and they gridlocked the freeways by riding single file according to rule. There is video of it somewhere.... In those days I wasn’t on PSB but I tried to get support over here but there was none forthcoming. I sent letters explaining problems with the rule and I was heard.

Now with the power of the internet and the mass of the PSB (and PR) community I am certain we could generate a huge rally on a controversial item like rule 151A.
