I seriously get frustrated with perth drivers lack of ability to merge...I mean seriously ITS NOT THAT HARD!!!! It seems that they go "oh crap the lanes ending...what do I do?? I know i'll stay brake hard and stay exactly where I am and not give way to anyone...yeah that'll work" friggin morons! Merging=simple! All parties involved do the speed limit, give each other room and merging is easy and painless, yet for some reason they feel the need to cut each other off and pull pretty much up to your front wheel/s and then wonder why you give them them a finger and abusive lingering on the horn. I mean seriously, I'm in front and you pull up half way down my car or bike...where they hell do you think you're gonna go when your lane runs out...idiots! They should teach practical things like this in driving lessons...and if you can't do it...no license for you. I mean the laws on guns are pretty damn strict...a car is just as lethal a weapon...yet we seem to freely hand them out to anyone who wants them...regardless of their lack of ability to use them safely and wth respect and regard (sometimes even awareness of) for those other road users around them...go figure!

They all want to save 2 seconds on their trip and being in front of another driver will achieve just that. It's well worth it you know.

"Merge like a zip" Needs to be taught more by driving instructors.
The problem is that the big clusterfuckery when concerning merging, usually happens on faster roads (eg, Fwy's Hwy,s @ 80+) where learners are rarely taken.
Maybe if the phase 1 learners permit allowed learners onto the freeway or the test involved freeway driving, drivers in gerenral would actually have to be capable of travelling on a fwy to get their license...

That shit fails on a fast moving road.
One hesitant driver at the front, and you'll soon get a whole queue of people sitting and watching 100km/h traffic whizz by...

Take that and shove it...
One big traffic jam...
Go to the Roe hwy> Fwy south and do your suggestion at peak hour...lets say 4 pm...you may get out on to the Fwy at 6pm....If you haven't been torn from your car and beaten to death by then...

mmm... maybe that blue car could move over and let the other guy in?
Radical idea, I know...
And even if it is chockas, back off a fraction to let them in, doen't take much to get a car in.

all good and sound points.
Breyton is the eptiomy of WA road users who ahve no fuckin idea how to merge or navigate a dual carriage round-a-bout.
In most cases the worst drivers in WA are the peoples that get there license in WA.

Yes, this is what causes our problems.
Merge like a zip is what should happen, not what you suggested.

Mother fuck.
I just had a reply typed out that would explain better. closed the wrong tab. Fuck.
eh. part sarcasm there. part bad choice of diagram.
So I made my own.
High-er speed roads, as I learnt/saw/experienced for a few months in the UK. new lane adds on, or dropping a lane. instead of the crap we have here you get something like this :
Excuse the crappy MSPaint work.
That first diagram ( ^^^ yep, the colour, bad choice one) show how I have seen many lane ends marked out, overseas and interstate. While over in QLD last month there were a few lane ends marked like this at 80kph. I am yet to see anywhere else that uses the same crappy ' lets just leave an empty gap and let them figure it out' markings as here in WA.
Principly the lack of definition for which lane actually ends. The current 'vehicle in front has right of way' just encourages people to be pushy and force their way forward rather than actually thinking, looking for a gap, and modulating their spped to suit. simply pointing to the lack of direction and shouting 'zipper' seems to have failed. Can we get back to copying the rest of the world that has been doing it for a few decades more with 10x the traffic? Not hard at all.

It wasn't your diagram that was the problem it was your words which in turn reflect your attitude.
