"
Reckless driving fines have also increased from $1000 to $2000 for the first offence, from $1200 to $3000 for the second and from $2400 to $4000 for any subsequent offences."
"
The new laws that come into force today mean that a first offence sees the impounding period increase from 48 hours to seven days."
"
For the second or subsequent offence, police can impound vehicles for 28 days. Police will also have the power to apply to the courts to permanently confiscate the vehicle."

Hoon laws have had zero measurable effect. Cept for maybe more runners.
Everyone i know who has "been targeted" has specifically stated that they're more likely to run if their car/bike is at risk.
i know. lets make them more severe!
*sigh*

has anyone told kobelke he is a fuckhead, maybe that kid deserved getting caught but when someone gets done out the back of welshpool in a light industrial area deserted at night, not waking anyone up, no one walking their dog in the area, no one else on the road., doing a nut and getting you car taken is a load of crap, the law should consider time and place and judge severity on that, yes i know that would open a box of worms, but we just keep getting pinappled. END drunkenr rant

It'll be hard to do a runner in a car though.
I have been nearly cleaned up on the bike by dudes in big V8's on P's doing dumarse burnouts, so I couldn't care less if they loose their car!
Do it where it doesn't endanger others and I don't care.

obviously the important thing is something is being "seen" to be done about the so called hoon problem, dosent matter that it will make no difference in reality, just as long as joe public can "see" something is being done is the main point for the govt

I can't wiat until Ironbar Wilson Tuckey gets done next time in his SS. It's only when a pollie falls on this useless sword when we will see reality reported. IE hoon laws have no effect on road safety in general.

I agree with this, but as far as idiots doing things that constitute a pulic menace - take their cars, fine them, etc.
Since we had a new service & car wash built around the corner (near Ranford & Warton roads), the amount of late night hooning has become annoying in our area. We even had some dick-head spin out onto our front lawn late one night, then rip up the lawn with a burnout when he did the runner. Fuck 'em I say.
We were all young once (oh, the memories), so I don't begrudge anyone having some fun - just find an appropriate venue that doesn't bother Joe public. This way, old Joe aint gonna give a toss about hoons & it'll probably die a natural death.
