Nissan joins V8 Supercars - secret build, why it's positive, and more

Most of the angles are covered here, they will develop their own 5.0litre V8, will be used in a Nissan four-door sedan (as per the rules). The model will be announced soon and will be all new.
    Will race with Kelly Racing.

Doesn't matter, the supertaxis will run a control chassis with control internals and the only difference being a body shell on top.
The don't even have to run a nissan engine if they don't want to.

They're trying to make it more and more like nascar, so think scalextrix sets instead of cars you'd buy from a showroom.

info here - Car of the Future, the New Generation of V8 Supercars

So any talk of 'rice burners' or 'turbos' coming back is birdshit.

Good, now nNssan will kick the Ford/Holden's asses around the track again like they did before they were banned with the GTR's

It is bespoke, this one will be bespoke.

Control chassis yes, engines no. They don't have to run a Nissan (there is a generic V8 Supercars engine available), but like it says in the stories above they will be producing their own.

Unlikely to be a GTR, must be a four-door sedan as per the rules. As per above.

So when will we be riding in Nissans to the airport?

Isn't it part of the rules that all manufacturers must sell 5000 "taxi pack" vehicles to be homologated for V8 supercar racing?

    C1.1 Technical Definition and Class
1.1.1 The requirements of this Division C apply to V8 Supercars, which are defined as largescale Production Touring Cars comprising a specialised class of 5 litre, Australian
produced, right hand drive, four door Cars, fitted with pushrod two-valve normallyaspirated V8 engines.
1.1.2 There is only one class of Car the V8 Supercar with engines of up to 5000cc capacity
fitted to Cars of which at least 25,000 examples, meeting the definition of Family of a
    Vehicle, must have been produced
What a stupid, neanderthal, inbred bogan form of racing spec.

darkfibre: that's the current rules (and yes, the wording is hilarious), the 2013 'car of the future' rules sound like they're different.

    Completely different Jefferidge.
Control Chassis, Rear mounted transmissions, larger wheels and less weight. Also a shit load cheaper to build and develop (apparently).
I'm somewhat surprised to see Nissan as first of the new competitors, I always pictured it being either Toyota or Chrysler.
Hell, I was even half expecting 888 to announce a Mercedes-Benz deal with all the recent cross promotion they have been doing with Mclearen over the last couple of years.

The 2013 Car of the Future rules give all makes a spec-chassis, with the only significant difference found in the body shell and panels
So it will be a standard "V8 supercar chassis" with Maxima/ Tiida body panels on it?
    Respect is earned, not enforced.

bring back group A touring, bring back group B rally.

It is good other manufacturers are getting into V8 supertaxis, but hopefully the rules allow for a bit more development and individual characteristics of each brand.

Just a cheap arsed version of NASCAR which I used to like watching back when the cars at least used bodies from existing road cars, not this current one size fits all bullshit Why bother putting badges on the cars at all? They aren't Ford or Holden's anymore and haven't been for years

    You sure about that?
It was expensive as hell for the makers and the grids were tiny. Although it did result in some bloody nice road cars, top level production racing is pretty much a thing of the past these days. Cost of one off race car vesus 5000 + specifically developed road cars basically guarantees it.
The biggest problem with group A, was it was all going swimmingly until the cost of one upmanship meant everyone stopped playing.

People tend to forget that it wasn't just in Oz that group A got shit canned. Even in Europe, it was pretty much the Sierra cup up until 1990. Then Nissan introduced the GTR, completely dominated and Ford, BMW and the like basically scrapped their group A racing programs. Grids shrank, crowds died so new rules were introduced to try to revive the sport.

As for group B rally cars?
Stevo is right. Everyone listen to Stevo.

I don't think there has been anything else in the world more mental and dangerous than group B rally.

Yeah, sorry what I meant was Nissan will beat 'em all with their homologated v8 car next year like how the (l6)GTR did before with the old rules.

if that makes any more sense

Get Group B going again, I have 2 dvds on the group Bs best raceing documentaries,

As for the new car of the future, it will be interesting to see how existing teams adapt to the new rules and what the new teams bring to the table with out influence of the v8 supercar experience, I am a big fan of open wheeler racing, less so for v8 supercars, but this will be an interesting period to spectate, there will be changes all season, very interesting to watch I think.
