numberplate camera - in a car park

Last night, at the entrance to the Wilson underground car park under Woolworths in Subiaco.

Silver toyota camry parked with its rear facing the entry/exit ramp. Poking out from where the tow ball would be was a double camera (both directions) photographing cars entering and leaving the car park. There was a guy sitting next to the car keeping an eye on things.

I assume they're adding photos of cars to their database, which will in turn make it easier to clamp repeat offenders.

Interesting because i've not seen one used privately before.

interesting... i know the airport carpark keeps track of numberplates when you get your ticket. good if you've had your vehicle stolen i guess?
