Thumbs up Officer Down - One Man Epic

For those who attended the xmas party last night you would be aware that we were selling tickets to be in the draw to win a bunch of prizes generously donated by several PSB sponsors.

This year we decided that the money for these tickets sales should be donated to PSB User - Officer Down to assist with his ‘One Man Epic’ mission to the North Pole.

In a little over 84 days, Office Down (Tom Smitheringale) will set out from Ward Hunt Island which is mass located at the tip of Canada between the Arctic Ocean and the Baffin Sea, with the aim of being the first Ausi and only the 3rd dude in history to reach the geographic North Pole solo and unsupported.

This is an epic challenge of all proportions and Officer Down is doing it to raise money for the Burnet Institute which is Australia’s largest communicable diseases research institute which battles against the worlds most serious infectious diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

BlackFZR was doing the count today so he may add to this thread shortly with the exact total that was raised last night, but I understand it is about $800 so we thank everyone for participating in the draw and urge anyone who has the private means or the corporate capacity to get behind the big guy and his huge endeavor to visit his website at www.onemanepic.com and donate and/or become interested in this cause by one of our PSB community folk.

So on the eight day, after wasting time faffing about with unimportant guff like heaven & earth & the waters & sky & creatures [& having a wee kip] & man.... God created PSB (GenesiSX-R1000)

He just rang me and he's just about to start his 3rd three hour sled pull for the day on the beach and was suitably stunned for words when I passed on the message...Thankyou PSB and thanks Deej for passing it on!

Fuck me thats insane, especially considering it will be a walk in the park compared to the actual trek.

Anyone that regularly puts up with Fastgirl gets my respect (just kidding Cols, I still love ya) please don't hurt me Tom, I will be donating today, because you're clearly insane, and I like that in a man.

    Don't forget my postcard!
Your eyes are weary from staring at the the new PSB skin and the glare of your monitor. You are starting to feel sleepy. Very sleepy. Notice how restful it is to look at my avatar. Look at it some more as you float into a cloud of calm and peace. Gently close your eyes. You are now asleep. The opinions stated in the above post are now yours. You cannot imagine why you ever felt otherwise.

Thankyou PSB this is a very kind and unexpect gesture. It makes me proud to know you're in my corner and I'd be happy to fly your colours at the Pole.

Here's an email I thought I'd share with you that I received today from Pen Hadow (UK). Aside from Borge he's the only other person on the planet who has achieved what I'm going to do.

    Tom,

'A ship, in harbour, is safe, but that's not what ships are built for.' (William Shedd)

It's far more about what goes on in your head than in your muscles. The AO may seem to mess with your mind, but it is your mind allowing itself to be s. Be on your guard. Reach out and show them.

    Bon voyage!

    Best wishes,

    Pen

I don't consider myself to be particularly brave, or strong but this will be an example of what a disciplined mind can achieve.

    Thanks again. OD

Now...if we could only have someone come onboard with some serious coin, then OD wont have to sell his house.

Heres a great interview by Nine news..

Dudes & Dudettes. We are a large community many of us working for corps that have charity budgets. Go to the website, print out some info, and stick it front of your CFO, Charity Committee, boss, [insert applicable person here] and get some dough for the Epic.
