It would be great to hear both of you talking candidly (edited, of course). Could you ask Tom whether he will be coming straight back to Australia after he finishes, or stay somewhere semi-cold for a while to de-acclimatise? I mean, he can get 'warm' inside the tent, but it's all relative. He won't have seen positive temperatures for a very long time.
I reckon coming home with a quick weather change from -30° to +30° could have interesting effects...

Great insight into how driven Tom really is. He really is in his paradise, and deserves to stand alone on the top of the world.Most would call you stupid or arrogant to even attempt it, the truth being you have to be neither.
Although to listen to Tom speaking with obvious eager anticipation and even the odd laugh about the prospect of having to swim a lead, you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise.
