Well I'd just like to say 'hat's off' to the pilots who brought everyone down safely. Well done. I'm sure a hole that size would have affected the aerodynamics somewhat and made it a little 'tricky' to land.

I'm curious as to how suddenly you can lose 20,000ft (6Km) of altitude, considering that a 747 cruises at about 30,000ft (10Km), short of going into a nose dive, unlikely, as it would probably need the last 4km of sky to pull out.

I know what a 14,000ft drop looks like, and feels like, without a plane around you.

A 20,000ft drop would require you to take at least one breath while screaming. Would have been one awesome experience though.

Yesterday morning the touchdown into Karratha was a disaster as well with the pilot excusing the enomous Thud by which the Quantas plane came down while the shocked flock disembarked.
I did check my fillings like many others
Qantas setting a trend, maybe?

once they pilots realised the plane was depressurised they would enter a steep, but controlled dive down to 10000ft. calling it a drop as reported on the news is wrong as that indicates it wasnt controlled.

baggage crew? maybe the door wasn't locked tightly... but i'm sure there is electronics to warn against stupidity

if i had to put money on it, i'd say engineers and maintenance

plummeting 20,000 ft would scare the SHIT outa anyone!!!! specially not being in control!!
firstly, the people who work an aircraft and mechanics, not engineers. pretty sure none of them hold 4 year under grad degrees...but i digress.

secondly, how does everyone know its the fault of people who maintain the aircraft. maybe a fabricated part that was installed was faulty.

fuck ppl are quick to jump to conclusions and are experts in everything.

I don't hold a uni degree, so therefore I'm not fit to be called an engineer? Well please, my dear expert, tell me what I am then and what I do in my job since you so obviously know more about it than someone whos dedicated his life to the profession of aircraft maintenance, holds a pilots license and made aviation as a whole an all consuming passion?

Tell me, how many aircraft have you built?

Most 4 year Undergraduate degreed 'Engineers' then spend the next 10 years learning off us 'mechanics' how to use the info shoveled into them at uni. I know, I'm mentoring two of them now!

havent built any aircraft. havent claimed to either. not quite sure what thats got to do with anything?

in most countries an engineer is someone who holds a 4 year bachelor or engineering. just like to be a called a lawyer u hold a law degree, doctor either phd, accountant etc etc.

i dont know you or what your job involved so i couldnt tell you.

not sure why u are taking this so personally, as it wasnt meant as an attack on you or your knowledge.
