Could have been worse...
Saw this thing on tv the other night. Pilots landed it like this from 28000 ft.

i remember watching a documentary about a 747 Hawaii / New Zealand route that lost a cargo door with a similar result. passengers and seats torn out of the plane at the tear, and some lucky passengers sitting in their seats looking at the abyss right at their feet.

With the benefit of so many warnings - if Qantas has an accident now they will have no excuse.
It's a bit like a squid who has a number of close calls and only luck saves his bacon. He then has two choices - either to 'pull his head in', or end up in an ambulance or dead next time.
(Not that I'm calling Qantas a squid - but you know what I mean)

REALLY not looking forward to my QANTAS flight in november now...
Do British airways do any of their own flights out of Perth?

connect singapore airlines from changi to london via british airways over qantas anytime. british airways economy class gives more room than qantas for that long hop.

I'm booked with BA, but I am pretty sure that Perth-Changi is QANTAS and the rest of the way is BA flights (Changi - Heathrow and Heathrow - Oslo).

[tinfoil hat] It's the US gubbmint. They're pissy we left them in Iraq and now they've blown up our gas supply in our wealthiest state and are busy destabilising the reputation and operations of our very iconic national carrier.[/tinfoil hat]
I'm sure it's got nothing to do with outsourcing the maintenance to a place that uses bamboo in highrise building construction.

I took some pictures from the top of Tokyo Tower where you can clearly see bamboo scaffolds 150 meters up.

Another couple of issues for QANTAS lately.
The other day ground crews forgot to empty the toilet system, and more recently they forgot to fill one up with water.
I expect the ISO to be knocking on their door shortly...there is something seriously wrong with their systems and procedures.

They're doing it tough, poor Qantas. Profit was only up 44%, they just missed out on making their billion dollars for the year, and are blaming the expensive maintenence workers. With third rate third world engineers, sure there would be more crashes, but the whole country can join together in celebrating record profits. And isn't that what we all want from an airline?

Akshury.... if it wasnt for Hiroshima & Nagasaki, Japan wouldnt be as prosperous as it is today. The yanks tipped bucket loads of $$$$ into the place to rebuild it and give their economy a legup, which put the japs in a better position than they were before the war.
/off topic.

Wasn't that only to prevent the Ruskies or the Chinese from getting in there?
