If video games influenced us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms, munching on pills and listening to repetitive electronic music...

I often want to beat taxi drivers and police, and I play GTA IV, but I don't think it's the video game. I've always been that way inclined since some of my earliest interactions with people of said employ.

To be fair, there was definately something that made those kids as messed up as they were.

Typical of the way society is going with all this political correctness bullshit and blaming something but yourself for what happens.
Bring back parents and teachers to smack the kids for doing wrong shit.
What ever happened to taking responsibility for your own actions...Wankers.

I still remember 'Manhunt'.. also made by Rockstar...

this would have to be THE most violent video game ever...actually, I was wrong earlier.. this was the game that got banned because of the 2 pommy kids...

I remember seeing it on the shelf at blockbuster, but never rented it as it looked crap... as soon as it went to court, and looked like it was going to be banned.. you couldn't rent or buy a copoy for love or money.. they sold out!!

Now it's a $10k fine to own a copy... go figure

Yes that was manhunt. I downloaded it cos of that, and I must say, that game was pretty shocking until you desensitized to it.

Sooooo what about the cartoons kids watch? Tom and Jerry, Ren and Stimpy, the Simpsons? And then movies - how many movies aimed at kids/teens have violence in them? The tv show Gossip Girl has heavy sex and drug references, and that's aimed at teens.

If they want to put society in bubble wrap, they're going to need broaden their net a bit more!

What happened to accepting responsibility for your own actions? It should be not be acceptable to claim "temporary insanity" or blame media - such as music, cinema or video games. You don't hear about people killing from something they see on the news, do ya?

No, but they probably could.

The problem is not society as a whole, its good lawyers getting better. They treat every case as its own isolated instance (as if what happens in that court room does not affect society at large), and if they use any excuse to get their client let off/reduced sentence (no matter how outlandish), then they've done a good job.

I didnt think people could still use it as an excuse, I thought there was research done debunking the whole violent games=violent kids link.

Ever been to Liverpool?

It's a bit rich to blame the murder of a kid in 1993 on video games that were not to be released until eight and 10 years later. Bloody media, always looking for a scapegoat

Ha ha!
lets see if you have such a social conscience, or encourage your lawyer to have one, if you are ever put before a judge!!

i can see where you were trying to go with that, but the comment itself made me laugh

what exactly do you think lawyers are paid to do?

Lol you've misunderstood me, mate. Im not saying thats the wrong thing, i'm just saying you cant blame government, shop owners, or society at large for this video games = violent teens crap, it all comes down to good lawyers doing a good job. Anyone who takes the games off the shelves in a knee jerk reaction, do so because they themselves dont want legal action against them.

As has been said above, Comic Books and Television and Movies have all had similar attention in the past.

^^ thats a stretch, but I'll pay it.

I find it funny, though, that theres not MORE uproar over the bible.
Seriously, if the bible is taken as truth, every one of us is a sinner.

God help you if you work on the sabbath day (Sunday) - you are to be stoned to death. No questions.

A stretch? More people have probably killed from biblical inspiration than any other single source.

I've been stoned on the sabbath many times. I prefer Dio.
