THREE police officers who escorted Cold Chisel frontman Jimmy Barnes to his concert in Margaret River at the weekend are facing disciplinary action after being clocked almost 50km/h over the speed limit.
A Sergeant, Senior Constable and a First Class Constable - all from the South West Police District - were caught on speed cameras while travelling along the Bussell Highway on Saturday afternoon.

It's understood the Cold Chisel frontman's management called for a police escort because he was running late for the concert, which raised funds for victims of the Margaret River bushfire.

A police spokeswoman said the police escort was sanctioned with consideration to the influx of people to the Margaret River region for the concert, the South-West fire and Leavers' Week.

The escort involved include a motorcycle and two vehicles.

The officer who was riding the motorcycle is now facing hoon charges after allegedly being clocked at more than 45km/h over the posted limit. It is understood he will face formal questioning tomorrow.

The Senior Constable involved does not own a vehicle. An alternative vehicle surrender notice was notionally issued and then cancelled. The motorcycle was subsequently seized and then released.

The South West District Office is investigating the officers’ actions during the escort.

Thought the law was something along: "whether or not it is your vehicle it will be impounded for 28 days" or 24 hours.... which ever it is now....
I would put money on it that he wont loose his licence, just have to face 3 months on desk duties or sitting as passenger....
