    07 R1 Problem Advice

Hey guys, I picked up my 07 R1 two weeks ago and have noticed a few little issues and need some advice.

    1. The bike has trouble getting into 3rd gear and sometimes 5th. It takes me two to three attempts to get it into gear (and it's not from lack of trying). This happens when it's hot and cold and at all different RPM. Has anyone else had this issue or know if it's something I should be worried about and take back to the dealer?

    2. When I start the bike after if hasn't been ridden for a few hours+ it takes a little longer to start when its turning over. When the bike does finally start there is a slight grinding sound (kind of like when you dont engage a gear properly) and then goes away after a few seconds, it almost sounds like the starter doesn't disengage properly. Is this normal for the year/model?

Any feedback or advice would be helpful.

It could possibly be clutch adjustment or even the engine oil. But if it can get into 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th with no issues then it probs isnt oil. Otherwise it may be a worn clutch. How many kms has it done?

Not sure about your second issue but its not normal in my opinion anyway

every r1 ive ridden you must firmly preload the shifts especially shifting at low rpm and use motul 5100.

My 09 R1 requires a decent upkick through all the gears but those particular gears seem to require a little more. I asked the previous owner who bought it brand new and he said that he'd thought the same thing when he 1st bought it. He took it back to the dealer who checked it out and said this is normal for R1's. Maybe someone else can confirm or deny that?

I just adjusted the shifter rod and rear sets around several times until I got them in a position that best suited my feet and footwear and it made it a bit easier to change gear. That's helped somewhat, but I still occasionally miss 3rd & 5th if I'm a bit lazy on the change. Keeping the chain clean and well lubed helps too.

As for the other problem is it definately more of a grinding noise or possibly a kind of knocking noise? Has the CCT already been adjusted?

Don't think it's the clutch, I'll play around with it though and see how it goes. it's only done 18000 km
