09+ R1 PC5 Auto tune ECU reflash - Anyone clued up?

When I finally get my hands on a R1, I plan to mod it as I have do with all my kit - Its an incureable disease I have.

I found the best mod for my KTM 690R was to removal of the stock ECU for the vortex one, it took alot of research but was well worth it.

My qusetion is, if you change the exhaust the tune wont suit the setup, so whats the priority. PC5 then ECU reflash? Or do you need an auto tune as well for AFR's etc? Can you run one without doing the other? And where in WA can we get a reflash done without excessive wallet rape?

Any thoughts would would be appreciated.

Few threads have popped up about this recently.

Personally I'd order a full exhaust system, pc5, race air filter & get the ecu tuned. Then whack it all on the bike and get it dyno'd.

Then put a set of oz wheels on, rearsets, brembo master cylinder, braided lines and wave rotors, levers, various carbon and billet bits, ohlins fork cartiges and shock.

Get some sweet custom stickers made then port the engine for more power and mid range.

I've really gotta stop hanging around the WTF guys and reading hewie's threads.

Order everything online and save a butt load of cash. No one in WA does ecu flashing but there are good places to get it dyno'd. SBK toy store could give you a hand with sourcing it all.

    Thanks mate for the info.

Whats the go with the dyno other than a power run card, just to check afr's etc or real time tuning the PC5?

They'll tune it for you using the pc5 to do fine adjustments on the fuelling as well as give you a print out. Russel at Dynotime in Wangara is very good, Patto at Bunbury Ducati comes highly recommended too.

I've never had or used a bike with a tuned ecu, only the fuelling with a pc/bazzaz etc so I'm keen to see what the difference is like.

Yes same here, am thinking about it myself but was hoping somebody could be the guinnea pig 1st

And would an aftermarket ECU be better than a reflashed stock one? Probably a lot more though?...

Can you actually name aftermarket ECU's which will fit an 09 R1, and how much they cost?

YEC (Race only) ECU, won't work with the standard wiring harness, so no speed gauge, indicators, lights etc..... ~ $1,680 + Tuning + YEC Wiring Harness

Motec ECU (Race use only), custom wiring harness, no lights indicators etc ~ $9,800 + Tuning + Dash + custom wiring loom.

I'd suggest if you really have to, get a reflashed stock one, as at least you know you can still ride the bike on the road as the instruments, lights indicators etc will work straight away.

I've got a PCV and Autotune on my R1 with a Akra + Y pipe. Russell at dynotime recommended that even with the autotune installed, it only picks up and retunes at certain RPM increments, therefore it's good to get the PCV tuned as well to compliment it.
