50000km service - What am I looking at?

So something bad happened last Wednesday night...

    uploadfromtaptalk1318429876666.jpg

Just trying to figure out what this requires service wise. Obviously oil and filter is a given. I'm guessing brake fluids and pads, as well as doing the forks with new oil and seals. Valve clearances? Cam chain tensioner? Plugs?

    What else should I expect?

Also if I was thinking abould adding braided lines, now would be the time, yes?

And finally how much am I likely to get stung for? I was going to hand the bike over to Ktek or someone similar, but a rough estimate on price would be nice.

    03 CBR 954 leftyblade.

The owner's manual and workshop manual will have a service chart in the front.

as well as doing the forks with new oil and seals. Pull the forks yourself and get someone to do them, think about replacing headstem bearings while the forks are out

Valve clearances? Cam chain tensioner? Plugs? Only get the big stuff done by a mech if you are worried about costs, plugs are a bit annoying, so if you get the clearances done, do them at the same time

    What else should I expect?
think about putting in new wheel bearings, maybe swingarm too
    air filter
    fresh coolant
think about replacing clutch or throttle cables if they aren't moving nicely anymore

This one is from the 929 manual, but it's the same shit

It's the bike doing a Saturday Night Live dance because it now has a working battery.

    Swingarm ey?

You still have that unloved SS?

Thanks Ben. The main issue is this is my only transport so I'd rather not have it off the road for a week or two.
    Must sort out the bunky...

    swingarm bearings i meant

all of the more minor jobs can be done in an hour or so each, a couple of nights work maybe, with the bike back on the road in the morning
but if you are happy to stump up the cash, get it all done in one hit at the mechanic i spose

Don't expect much change out of about $900-1k.

When i got my 48k done, thats about what it cost and I got:

oil/filter, air filter, new spark plugs, valve clearances, throttle body clean/adjust, etc.

from memory... maybe a couple of other minor bits and pieces. I got it done by K-tec. The previous (major) 24k service was approximately the same price (not k-tec).

May vary a bit, but there is a lot of stuff to do at every 24-25,000km on most bikes.
    stuff

Bring it to my place if you want. I can do everything on that list, or at least all the easy stuff, for a carton.

It's all good Sam. Will see what Derek says next Tuesday.
Thing that really concerns me is a ticking which I suspect is a CCT, the Valve clearances and the brakes. They give a bit of a shudder when I'm onto them with a bit of gusto.

But yeah, see what Derek says, and I'll go from there.

Dood Derik has been servicing my bike since before 18k and now is over 60k still going strong
Never felt like he touched me up either, allways tells me what is going on and I reckon about 1/2 the price of the shops.

    Nah.
I actually really liked the blade, but I'll probably just potter about on the bunky until I go away.

Every 24k was a big service, costing me in excess of $700 as it included everything listed in the manual to be done. Unfortunately I was taken for a ride by a dealership as some of the important stuff, like valves, were not done but charged. Beware and check the work you pay for is done.

How do you know your valves weren't done?
