Have some bad news for both of us, was just in the shed welding up some ally table legs and the tig died, im hoping its just the thermal overload coz its bloody hot in the shed, but i think thats doubtful, its still going, just wont crank the amps up over about 30. Fuck!, will let you know if it fires back up when its cooler.
This is what happens when you buy cheap welders off ebay!

depends what you want, the one i got was 1400 and does everything, ac/dc tig, plasma cuts and arc welds, but not industrial grade, dont even think its hobyist grade, i havent done that much work with it and its died.
If you never want to weld aluminium, then a good dc inverter that will arc weld and dc tig weld, mild steel, stainless, etc about $1100, if you want a good one that will weld everything, an ac/dc machine, your looking at around $4k. I wish now that i had spent the $4k in the first place, luckily i got enough work done with this one to pay for itself, just.
