Either the battery is low, there is a poor connection somewhere or it is running too lean.
I find that I have to adjust the idle mixture between summer and winter (open loop idle on mine) otherwise it will backfire.
Right now I am getting some backfiring and "stumbling" on accelerating out of corners but I put that down to a poor connection. I just have to find the mongrel.

I've seen this before where as there is an air leak after the AFM (Air Flow Meter) and causes the car to back fire.

Check from your airbox to intake mani pipes and make sure everything is secure and intact.

Check your vacuum hoses and the stoppers, if they are all good then it may pay to have them check your gas converter, the springs may be weak and allowing a lean mixture.

I'm using the same plugs in both taxis. Working fine so far.

The converters are a very simple gadget (ie there are no springs). They either work or don't work. If a converter is buggered then you remove the two bolts at the bottom to let the coolant drain out, then the car can be driven somewhere (to get a reconditioned converter fitted).

PM sent. Forgot to add that if you're anywhere near Kalamunda then go see Chris at Lesmurdie Motor Wreckers.

Sorry Slipin, I left of the obvious. Vacuum leaks are the most common cause of the lean condition that leads to backfires and always the first thing I check.

Hmmmm interesting to know as my EL V8 Falcon has been playing up lately, occasional stalling even after getting the gas system serviced a few months back In fact only the other day she back fired as I went around the bend from the new section of Hepburn Ave toward the Beechboro Rd roundabout Then she stalled just short of work and wouldn't crank over Jump started her and she went OK Will get a new battery and see whether that improves things

I was advised when I bought one of these to always have it serviced by Ford. My mechanic for all other vehicles once told me they do tend to backfire as do most gas vehicles and there are springs fitted in the air cleaner for when it occurs. Maybe check those.

We also have an FG, which has been back at the dealer now for 4 days as they try to get to the bottom of a fail to start issue.

Generally we have had a good run out of them.

The BA-onwards 6cyl engines are very sensitive to shitty spark issues, with a lot of the e-gas engines if the plug is incorrectly gapped, it can cause these sorts of backfiring problems.

Good thing factory fitted liquid phase injection is now available so LPG users don't have to put up with this sort of stuff in a modern car anymore.

I had a LPG 60 series landcruiser and backfiring was always an issue off and on the whole time I owned the vehicle.
It's a normal consequence of gas fired engines apparently. It pissed me off so I got a diesel.

It's a normal consequence of having an old style mixer ring gas system that is out of tune. Modern LPG systems won't give you any of that backfiring and carryon.

Unfortunately no; Ferris might have a clue for installers/tuners in that area. You might have to go further afield though, like say Steens in Balcatta or Maddington Gas Conversions (ask for Steve). I've received good service and advice off both. If you're really in a bind I know there is a Gaspower outlet on Newcastle Street in Northbridge but they did the conversion to my BA and I am less than impressed with it.

I've put it down to a bad coil .... Plugs are fine app.. Theirs also the seal around the injectors from the air box . Witch has had not been put on properly to the injectors . And the rubber is all cracked and degraded etc . + the battery after leavingbit on charge all night is only reading 12.75v when it should be 13.7-14.4v

So few issues to attend to and let u know how it all goes .

Good luck finding the intermittent dodgy coil.

I just replaced the whole set from Ebay and it fixed the BA backfiring you speak off.

Btw it will get worse during summer, as those coils tend to break down more with heat

Try a different set of coils. I've got a spare set here if you want to borrow and try them out. If the backfiring stops with a different set of coils then there's your problem.

I used a set of those cheapo Ebay coils, they were hopeless and did just as you said, broke down under load in hot weather. In the end I had to go with genuine coils - a full set for $300. A costly exercise but fixed the problem.
