    Bike cuts out accelerating hard

My 06 ZX10R cuts out momentarily when accelerating hard but only in first gear. At WOT in first at around 7000rpm the bike will lurch violently (as if I'm trying to do a very clumsy power wheelie) then continue accelerating hard up to redline. This only happens in first.

I'm thinking it could be fuel but what should I check to potentially save myself some money before I get a mechanic to take a look?
Is such a thing even possible?

I'm going to go with worn dogs on 1st gear.

Check (it's a hell of a lot harder to notice) but if there's a hint of it in 4th as well, almost guaranteed it's gearbox.

I dunno CaptSF is prolly a better source of info but it could be shit in the injectors???

It can happen in 1st and not in others because of a longer wind out perhaps?

Btw how the hell you gonna redline 4th on a thou around town?
    Its all good.

Side stand switch. Had a very similar issue with my 07 zx10.
    Worth looking into at least!

Apart from that, gearbox does sound like a candidate.
Also the fact the ZX10 makes max torque at 11,500RPM.
Does it only "lurch" once, or multiple times?

Also why would the dogs on 4th would be gone as well?
I realise they share a common gear/fork, but still..........

You just answered your own question. There is no fourth gear, just a different combination which re-uses the gears (and dogs) for first...

faaaark, looks like it was 5th in common (not 4th). And even then, that different dogs are in use even when the common gear is driven.

    Starfish = fail.

Move along, nothing to see here.

(I'm still going with the dogs in first being a likely culprit for the stutter)...

The bike only lurches once. I'll see if I can replicate it without being WOT. I tried to reproduce it in 4th but if it was there it was imperceptible.

There are 3 gears that move sideways on the shaft to engage gears next to them (the yellow gears in the vid).
They engage via "dogs" on the side of the gears.
With the engines I've been intimate with (and I assume Cptn *fish as well), one of those gears will move one way to engage 1st, and the other way to engage 4th.
So they share a common fork (the thing that moves the gear), but don't share any dogs, hence it's extremely unlikely that 4th gear would show any issue.

Abuse this - Any more news?

Symptoms sound just like my R6 losing second gear, so another +1 for check the ZX forums for gearbox issues.

Well having experimented with the bike I think it might be the gears. The lurching is less violent if I accelerate hard but not WOT, there's no lurch if I slowly accelerate.
Is such a thing even possible?
