    car mechanic advice needed

Anyone on here a mitsubishi mechanic?

    I have a 93 Magna V6 that has a thermo problem.

When the air-con is turned on, the thermo behind the condenser is meant to turn on, problem is that it isn't turning on.

The fan does work cause when the car get to temp, both thermo's turn on. So, I am pretty sure the issue lies with either a switch or a relay.

There is a trigger wire from the compressor that goes into a loom which feeds onto the thermo but I can't find where the switch/relay is. Anyone know where it is?

Edit: I haven't checked the trigger wire to make sure that is working (ie. put a multi-meter across it) but I will try that tonight just to eliminate that from the possibilities.

Does the compressor engage when you turn on the air con ? Normally caused by low gas and the comp not kicking in hence no fan.

does your car still idle up when you flick the a/c on? most cars have an 'idle up' switch that somehow gives the car a bit more revs to cope with the extra load, i'd say that's what they'd tap the fan off to make it work.

kinda vague i know, but hopefully that'll help

I believe on the VL commodore the pressure switch to engage the fan is on the drier, so it may be in a similar spot on your car. If it is on the drier and needs replacing it's a full drop of the gas replace switch and then re-gas.

You can bypass the switch by pulling the relay and shorting the plug to make sure the fan is working. you can try swapping the relay, if that doesn;t fix it then I'd say the pressure switch is probably buggered.

Yeh its part of a logic circuit. Also most have a high cut out too. Need to know first if the comp cuts in or not if it does then its an electrical issue, if not its more than likely a pressure issue.

problem solved. I found the faulty relay. It threw me out cause the fans (both the radiator and aircon fans) came on when the car got to temp. I shorted the link and tried turning the air con on and off and the fans kicked in. Only problem was I also shorted the master fuse getting the relay out. Oh well, off to the auto elec's tomorrow. Let this be a lesson, always disconnect the battery before working on the fuse box.

We are trying to help. Why would anyone in their right mind suggest buying a ford. He'll just end up writing another dozen "my car shit itself threads"!!!
