Has it always been like that, or has the problem just developed.
Intelligence and education are three sides of the same coin.
I have a factory manual for the GS1000S's if you want/need some base line info.

the bike has never run properly and the process of nailing down the issue has been interestion, but i think what it comes down to now is that the main jet is too big.

Matt - depending on the year of your GS the carbs vary in their spec and set up, just a point to consider if you are buying bits and pieces.
79 model - flat seat, solid discs, bigger instruments wth clock etc = 28mm carbs
80 model - stepped seat, vented discs, smaller instrument cluster = 30mm carbs
Fuel tap can cause issues if the vacuum diaphram is split it can suck fuel through vac line causing rough running and fuel smoke running rich etc
All plugs fouling?

Float heights correctly adjusted?
Balance prob, vacuum balance all carbs.

GS1000 with standard jetting etc needs stock standard airfilter set up!
Having different airfilters on the carbs throws out the fuel-air mixture, normally way to rich due to less air resistance and non scavenger effect!

the main jets shoule be 97.5 and they are 110, have got a set and will fit them soon and let you know. The bike has 30 mm smooth bore carbs and i am hoping it will failey move.
thanks for the tips guys, Jamathi, nice to hear your still around, how about a ride on you rg?
