    Clutch adjusting problem

this problem is being a pain in the ass, yesterday i went to adjust the clutch cable as i found even with the lever all the way in the bike still wanted to crawl forward(even more so if u rev it).

so after some adjustments of the adjuster on the lever and the one 1/2 way down ive managed to make it worse, shes now sometimes jumping out of 1st when u go to take off tried to change it back but to no avail and in some adjustments its harder to get into gears(upchange and down change), ive gotten it sorta better so the shifts are smoother far but it doesnt fully engage till the lever is almost near the end and anytime i try to adjust it so it engages earlier on the let go it want to go back to jumping outta gear

could be time for new cable?

Ive been going off the workshop manual which says this.

Adjusted it so i had about 2mm of leeway before u can feel it disengaging the clutch and that didnt work, so i loosened it so the cable was slack then slowly tightened it up while watching the fork lever till it picked up the slack and was tight again but that didnt work.

Trying to get it working on just the lever adjuster as whenever i touch the one 1/2 way down stuff really seems to go outta whack

Ok just got home from work and took it for a run round the block cause i got in into a good adjustment last night so it gears up and down smoothly and doesnt slip outta gear, but when i pulled back into the garage i left it for a bit in gear with the clutch in and as the engine calmed down u could feel the clutch slowly engaging a bit and start dragging.

    now its got me stumped

Cheers to Gavin for trying to fix the problem but even after pulling it apart and giving it a base adjustment once it hot it still wants to drag again and now has us both stumped lol, but we are gonna try a different oil and when he has some time have a look at the plates.

gavin ur a top bloke cheers for helping

is there eniough pull on the lever on the clutch end? i found my cabl stretched quite a bit in the first 3 months but adjusting the base end and some new levers has kept it in spec since.
Il prolly make my own once it comes time to replace.

Gotta love the manual. How is it possible that weakened clutch springs could cause dragging? Slipping yep, but not dragging FAIL

i dad similar probs for about a year until i noticed that the bearing that transfers cable movement to clutch pushrod was rooted .results in less travel overall . mine is located in countershaft cover .(unfamiliar w gt 650 ) .

when we were setting nath's rz up we noticed the pressure plate was being lifted cocked, this caused dragging i think if you were to set the closed position based on the weakest spring

swapped and changed springs around till the pressure plate was lifting true

you are right though, for it to cause dragging on a previously properly setup clutch a spring would have to get stronger.

You have done an oil change just to eliminate the oil factor?

Ok tried some 20w/40 motul and it just made it slip a bit and made it lose some power, didnt drag when i pulled back in, in idle till i gave it a rev,but im guessing thats cause it was just slipping still.

seeing that DB only stock belray i think thats what they use.
