    Clutch or gears??

Gday guys, im having a problem with my bike and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I'm finding that my bike wants to pull forward even when i have the clutch fully in. Ive played with the "play" on the clutch and cant seem to change anything. The wierd thing is that when i turn the throttle whilst holding the clutch in and get my revs up, the bike stops pulling forward. Im also finding that its harder to change gears when riding. Could this in fact be a problem with the gear box? Any help would be great. Cheers all.

Clutch probably just needs adjusting at the gearbox side.

look for the most simple solution: how long has it been since it's had an oil change? Bikes use the same oil for the engine and gearbox, so when your oil starts to get old, the gearbox starts to feel and perform like crap.

Bike could need an oil change - or if it just had one, it needs to be bike oil not car oil with friction modifiers in it.

Warped clutch steels, bad springs etc or might be an adjustment etc

id' say adjustment at the clutch end, the adjusters on the bars is mainly for cable slop/lever play which is only part of the deal

Some times its as simple as using a thinner oil and pulling the clutch apart and putting fresh oil between the plates. Measure the clutch pack against the manual specs whilst you have it apart.

When Running they don't usually have alot of oil between the plates but if the oil is too thick there will be no oil between them.

Car oil isn't the problem, car oil causes the clutch to slip all the time.
I wouldn't expect a gear box problem either as it is either in gear or out.
I suspect a clutch adjustment issue.
I can't explain the problem vanishing with increased revs or why changing gears is more difficult.

If the clutch is not fully disengaging and creeping it drives the bike forward via the oil contact between the plates bit like a vicscous hub. When you increase the revs it breaks this bond or surface tension if you like the bikes drag is reduced

If all the adjustments are right it will more than likely be worn hub or basket.

I had an xr250 i rebuilt the motor with bigger piston etc and not long after the clutch did the same thing yours is doing. i think it needed new plates and basket.

    Sounds like a similar problem

On a gpx, it is an idle speed issue. and very common. but don't know what you ride..

Cheers guys. It was a GPX! after giving her an oil change, a new clutch lever and playing with the idle speed she runs better than she ever has, its amazing!! Thanks heaps for everyones help. I think in the end it was a combination of all things but mainly the idle that was dragging the bike forward. And oil changes are brilliant!!!
