okay my bike needs a new clutch farely soon soooo. should i go for a lockup clutch or go for the normal replacement?

lockup clutches for a zx12 do exist just hard to find though. however i have found this
    http://store.58cycle.com/product_p/barn%20...0zx12r%2001.htm
which may be a better alternative? price wise

keep in mind though nitro is going on it in problay 6 weeks and this time next year the engine is coming out for a moderate workover and will be going back in with a hairdryer attached.

if anyone knows where i can source a lockup for a zx12?, if a lockup is needed. muzzy has one but they arent returning emails...

are lockup clutches liveable on a daily basis? ie are they usable in the daily mindless drone of suburbia?

general consensus is that lockup clutches suck on the street, but if you do go for a lockup, get the multistage

i mean turbo, nah its not crazy. its called living life

and if the general consecous that lockups suck on the street then i might just go with the higher quality clutch plates. they're not very dear in the big scheme of things and is easy to change. do they suck because they grab to hard and/or quickly? could be a nasty mix for the gearbox/chain if it grabs really quick, plus keeping the front on terrafirma, its bad enough now

would putting stronger springs in hurt anything?

nitro and turbo mixes actually work really well when working with higher boost levels, if done properly.

Whoever is selling you the turbo kit should be able to recommend a clutch upgrade, as they should know what realistic HP you will get out of it.
Mine simply has two extra diaphragm springs in it and is capable of handling more than double the stock power with standard plates in it, so with luck, you may not need to go as far as a lock up clutch.

It's very heavy though, not something I'd like to commuite with.

EDIT **** Oh yeah..."Nitro" = Nitromethane, "Nitrous" = Nitrous Oxide

    hehe yea nitrous.

not fussed about the clutch being heavy just as long as it still has plenty of predictable feel etc.

the turbo set up by the looks of it might require the bike being shipped over east as unfortunately not many places actually do kits as such. they will do it but they wont sell the parts seperately, though they are in the states so they might do it for international.

if there is some local guys willing to have a crack at it please let me know, just as long as they are someone that does a quality job. i dont want things going pear shaped at the speeds i want to get out of it.

I reckon a car turbo specialist would be a good place to start. it's not a small job, custom making the exhuast maifold alone would be expensive.
But then, turbo charging is an expensive modification anyway.

Here's a few sites to check out.
I got my kit through Holeshot racing in the UK.
The US suppliers are much cheaper though but none offer a kit for your bike.
I think I heard somewhere that the big kwaks didn;t take to it too well.
But that was probably booze talk.

Blackzook has a turbocharged Busa which may have Nitrous. Haven't seen him on here for a bit but he may be able to tell you who built/modified the motor. He lives over east so all work would most likely have been done over there. IIRC he said he couldn't find anyone over here who knew much about turbo work on bikes.

their doesnt appear to be much on offer locally but hell it aint that friggen hard to sort, serioulsy the hard part is fitting it up which i might actually have that one already sorted.

the 12's apparently run pretty crap pistons so the motor will be coming out (which it will have to anyway to get the airbox sealed properly) to put in new forged pistons plus better valves and stronger springs.

the only supplier so far i can find is holeshot and mr turbo in the us (who doesnt have email grr, well i couldnt find it anyway). the uk one is going to be around $8000 for parts which will include basically everything, including the exhaust manifold and associated plumbing.

so the long journey begins...... cant be too long though i want to have it ready for march.

rocket, was the kit quality good, any info will help. many thanks

if you got the dosh to replace it (in your hand) then yea you can take it for a 'blast'

    how does that saying go?

you can never have to much power.... bwahahahaha

but nah seriously its going to be a long road and im guessing there is going to be alot of 'issues' before this is done

Yeah the kit is well made and fit with only minor messing around.
The price is about right if you get it from the UK but the US seems to be much cheaper.
I went to Holeshot because they were the only ones with a kit to suit the carbed bike I was doing.

A lot of guys will tell you that it's possible to build a kit for much less and this is true, but I hate fucking around with shit and I got a kit that is pretty well sorted and fits properly.
Although it took a long time for them to get it together and send it across. I ordered it right before their racing season started and they do LOTS of motors for the drag guys.

thanks for that, i got the impression they were 'pros' and if they're busy during race season for the drag guys then that kinda says something about the work.

again thanks and ill probaly harass you in the near future
