Cutting a Carbon Muffler down? is it possible?

    Just throwing this out there,

Can you cut down a Carbon muffler and make it shorter, IE a Stubby can?

The only reason I ask for is my brand new Roo Muffler has a little dent in it and I was thinking I could drill out the rivets cut the can and then drill the holes out and re-rivet the can back onto the flange?

Is this possible or am I in dream land?

If anyone has done this I would love to hear from you.

^ A mate of mine did it to his. At first it all seemed ok, but it made it much louder (not necessarily a bad thing - unless it attracts the wrong kind of attention). But after a while, he noticed it running differently and ended up replacing the whole thing (although, that was probably just the excuse he used to his wife to get a new one!).

So, technically, it is possible to do, but it might change things (noise) and require a re-map to get it running nice again.

Completely do-able. Will make it louder, depending on how much you're taking off. And you won't notice any difference in how the bike runs.

The only other thing you'll need to do is cut down the baffle tube, once you've removed the outer carbon sleeve and packing material (that all comes away in one piece).
And cut the carbon sleeve slowly with a hacksaw. It can be easy to hook up and crack the carbon fibre if you're too keen with an angle grinder.

edit: found a pic of the old Roo pipe I chopped down on my stunter. That went pretty short because I flipped a wheelie and pretty much snapped it in half.

yeah I only need to cut down 5cms so not much at all, I was just worried with the interanal pipe as it may need to be welded in?

might see if Roo Racing can do it for me?

The baffle tube doesn't need to be welded, you just cut it at the exhaust exit end. It's only tacked on the engine end of the exhaust.
One of the easiest things you could DIY.

mmm but its the engine end that has the dent in it and needs to be cut,

I just dont want to make a mess of it and have to buy a new one, as it stands its in total working order just a nasty dent.....cry....

If it was old I would just replace it but it has only done 2000km worth or riding

    EDIT:

Ah I could just drill out the rivets on both ends then cut the internal pipe fromt he exhaust then just cut the outer layer out ont he busted end, Problem solvered, !!

Now just have to man up and start the cutting??

    LOL

Why not just rotate the carbon cover so the damage is hidden...

Use an angle grinder with a cutting disc.
Pull the guts out of it first.
Measure twice, cut once. It will look crap if the cut isn't straight.
Wear a mask when you do it.

Can give you a hand if you want.
    I'm next suburb over.

Also, if you don't like the carbon look, you can get an aluminium or stainless steel sleeve made up.
I did this for a scratched up stainless Yoshi RS-3. Cost $60. A bit cheaper than a new one.

Just a sticker. They were $5 for a new one, about 4 years ago.
A clean carbon can looks tidy anyway.

Careful when you cut it. The carbon dust is razor sharp, as bad as asbestos.
