Cheers for the advice guys, I did read the link about the Monzas not actually being restricted, which could be true as their WA based and the restriction to 50km/h is an eastern states thing AFAIK.. however ive also read a few reports about them having several restrictions in place.
I don't pick it up till tomorrow so I might just see how it goes first, sounds like a bit too much work for not much gain from everything i've read so far.
No, the 50 km/h is an ADR classification thing. If it can do more than 50, it's no longer a Moped under the ADRs and has to comply with a whole different set of rules re: braking, lighting and noise. To be sold legally as a moped anywhere in Australia, the V-Moto and any other scooter must comply with the 50 km/h requirement.
There is (or was until recently) an inconsistency in WA's laws (in the driver licensing area IIRC) which had 60 km/h as the upper limit for a moped.
If it came to legal argy-bargy, you might avoid driver licensing related prosecution if you could show that your unrestricted scooter could still not exceed 60 km/h because of the above. You would, however, not have a leg to stand on regarding roadworthiness issues unless you went through the bureaucratic rigmarole required to officially change the ADR classification of a vehicle.
Not sayin' I agree with the situation, but that's the way it is.
Thanks for the clarification, I might just leave it as it is for now, atleast until its properly run in.
Notwithstanding what I said above, as long as you didn't do anything spectacularly stupid in front of witnesses, you'd probably get away with it.

Muscle Bikes Rock. You heard me. And go minibikes! Wheeeeeeeeeee
So been out and about all day on the scoot.
Got it up to about 70 on the flat, so not too bad. Been a heap of fun.
Might not need to derestrict it after all![]()
Hi, i have a monza and have derestricted it so it now can do 80km/h.
I needed to buy a kit from the guys at scooter hq (google them) there in qld or there abouts, the kit includes a gianelli sports exhaust, a new variator and a kevlar belt. The vmoto monza isnt restricted in the sence that a lot of other scooters are, there restrictions are a washer welded just inside the exhaust near the flange, a cdi box that limits whatever to keep power down or a washer inbetween the variator halves, the vmoto monza has none of these. I think most of its restrictions come from small inlet to air filter box and a inefficiant exhaust. The exhaust in the kit it where u get most of the power from, they say to only open up the intake to the air box only slightly however i cut a big hole in it and subsiquently had to change my main jet size (originally a "70" now a "82"). The variator just bakes acceleration i little quicker but mainly smooter, they will ask your weight when u order the kit so they can provide the appropriate weight rollers. Hope this has helped
Great post, though by the looks of it, exan's moved on to bigger and better things (last post was in march).
Welcome to PSB, Jesta![]()
I'm just about to whack a 70cc kit in mine, should be a hoot to see how fast we can get it rolling..
Just changing the pipe with something actually designed for a 2 stroke makes a huge difference.. aparently +20cc and a bit of work on the carby with jet size.. should easily see it around 10hp.. then we should do a bit of work on the variator weights..
Why you ask ?
Because I can![]()
Come and see us in the 2011 Avon Descent - we're racing boat #234 !
^^You mean a pipe with those resonance chamber thingies? /noob
Just outta interest... +10hp... How much did it start with?!
Ummm I got the impression trying to get it to 10hp
Will be fun to see it on a sorfnr some time
Ech, I'm gonna say I was too tired to brain, and had the dumb.
