Whatever you want to call them
Ok, so take 1 (one) '01 CBR929rr, without the park lights up in the corner of the headlight (as far as I know, only the Euro models got them). The hole for these lights was just blanked off on other countries' CBRs, so it's pretty easy
Take 2 (two) LED replacement park lights, wedge type. The sockets for these come from the dealer rather than the accessories type places, but I couldn't be bothered getting them
Them's the lights
That's where they goin
Please refer to the boring one-light-only-ness of the CBR
below.
Yawnalicious
Now, we remove the bodywork behind the little light hidey-hole, I got away with only removing what you might call Ram Air covers, if this bike were to have Ram Air. But it don't. Aaaaaaanyway, you should now be looking at the blanked off light mount bit, which I conveniently forgot to photograph. Now we take 1 (one) soldering iron, and melt a hole in the back of the headlight unit, in the desired position. Melting a hole rather than drilling means I don't have any plastic shavings going down inside the light
Caution - Hot
Great success!
The hole is now the same size as the lights, so now all we need to do is glue it in, and seal it up with (on my Dad's advice) some Silastic. It ended up being messy as shit, but luckily, this next photo blurred, so it looks fiiiine
Goooooooo
Now, repeat for the other side, but don't make as much of a mess. Once this is done, we can get started on the wiring. Being LEDs, they draw very little power, so it's possible to just piggyback off the low beam headlight, which is handy, because they are right near the low beam headlight, and it will be on whenever I'd want these on too. Either get your wiring diagram out and/or check with a test pen or similar to find which wire is which, and solder in the new wire. My brother was hanging around, and thought up a crazy Y-type arrangement for the new lights, so I went with thatA little more screwing around, but it also meant only splicing in one wire on each, rather than two.
Use heatshrink for bonus points
LED of course stands for Light Emitting Diode, so polarity is a big dealThe bulbs were not marked at all, as I guess if they didn't work you'd turn them around. Since I'll be soldering the wires directly on, made sure I tested first. Conveniently, on both sides, I came up with "White on the Right"
Nearly there!
Once it's all soldered up, you turn the bike on, walk to the front and admire your genius...
Wait, what?
Orange?!? I re-examine ze packet and see no hint towards their amber-ness(Ok, I noticed it a little earlier on while testing, but it reads better this way
). Guess I'll live with it for now, and see if I like the orange. If I don't, it ain't a hell of a lot of work to dig out the old ones and get some newies
Thankyou for your time, I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have![]()
