Ducati wheelie problem
It's not a problem with the wheelies, more a problem with it dumping copious amounts of oil up through STM breather and into the airbox, which then leaks fucking everywhere.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem other than stop doing wheelies, because honestly, that isn't really an option.
EDIT: Evidently, I fixed my clutch.

Drop the motor.
Put an <insert any other manufacturer name> engine in there instead.
This is a fairly common complaint, Desmo.
"It's a ducati, officer. They do that"...
Just another part of the charm.

Yeah, I know it's a common issue with the quattro/testastretta, just wondered if anyone had actually heard of a fix.
This is the second time in as many weeks this has happened.

Seriously though- Perhaps you could look at re-routing the crankcase vent elsewhere, like to a secured, but unsealed, bottle, that you'd have to check after riding for a while (similar to those PV drain bottles on RGVs).

Just having a read here, Oil Breather - Ducati Up North, might help some.

I purchased an oil breather for my last duck from Vee Two. I just did a search of their site and they don't appear to range them these days.
Maybe too busy R&D'in blowers or something...

Might look at a remote breather set up, it really is dumping a LOT of oil.

You don't think the fact that it's dumping a lot of oil is a bigger concern?
edit: Wait, it's only during wheelies, right? nvm.

It's a well known issue with the 8 valve motors mate, due to where the breather sits.
It's OK if you do little mincy faggot wheelies, but if you hold it up for any length of time, it just spews it out the breather and up into the airbox.

You have no idea how much self control I'm showing here.
That stuff in the article about a breather with small oil-catching tube thingos sounds like an alright idea.
Is the "STM breather" already an after-market job?

Just checked, and surprise surprise, it's not a fucking STM.....
I swear one day I'll find something on this bike that's as advertised.
Going to pull it apart and look at it inside, but I'd bet bcks that an OEM one would do a better job than the cheap $25 ebay one on there.

oil catch can + breather vent would sort this I would think? (located somewhere smart)...
preferably a baffled can so that the oil doesnt surge out the breather during quick acceleration/deceleration

Wasn't that the whole point of the STM breather mod? Maybe replacing it with the real deal will fix the prob?

Yep, I would go for a catch can that is internally baffled but also vented to atmosphere via a filtered breather (that way it doesn't build up pressure and start blowing out gaskets/seals). Then just seal off where it would normally feed into the airbox.
There are heaps on the market that are designed for cars, just check eBay and I'm sure you will find one that is small enough to be adapted to the bike.
Will also help ensure that the oil vapour won't mess with your air intake system (air/fuel ratios) - which is usually why they are put on cars.

Make sure the replacement breather has a carbon reed, they work a hell of a lot better than the plastic ones.
No you can't have mine

i ve got a stock fairly low kays oil breather from my sc1000 sitting around you are welcome to try that and see if it solves or helps your problem (if it fits)
the other thing - isnt your motor fairly worked and all that , so could it be generating more than the usual internal pressure which is why it venting so much oil especially under high rpm and up steep hills???

Jules_1972 has the carbon underseat tray & oil catch combo, works a treat but not a cheap option, PM him for info
