    GoPro - 1080p Hi Def

GoPro, makers of the infamous Hero Wide line of cameras announced some astonishing news at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Show this week. This Fall, they will be releasing the GoPro HD Wide, the world’s first full high definition 1080p helmet camera! Yes, that’s right, 1080p (1920 x 1080 resolution) on a freak’n helmet cam, how awesome is that? What’s even more awesome is that the camera will retail for $299, quite possibly placing it among the world’s most affordable 1080P high definition camcorder of any sort.

I wonder if they're going to manage to release the software update for the 4gb SD card before this new camera?

1080p resolution is pretty sweet out of a camera that small, though.

Shit, I've got a hero wide and I'd still buy one of these. Use one for a primary angle and one for the secondary.

    And it's 60fps........

Heh recording 1080p to a 2 or 4 gb flash card? So... that would be around 5 secs of recording. LOL.

    Nice camera tho.

The 2gb file size limit is only on the older camera. The new one can accept up to a 32gb card, so that should be good for a decent amount of footage.

You would still be talking less than 10 mins (conservative) of 1080p. I cant seem to find any specs on recording times or effective bitrates.

Not wanting to be that annoying guys that corrects someone but.....

    32 Gigabyte SD Card = 32 000 Megabytes generally

12 Megabits per second /8 (8 bits in a byte) = 1.5 Megabytes per second recording

    So 32 000/1.5 = 21,333.33 seconds

    and

    21,333.33 seconds = 355.55 minutes = almost 6 hrs!

So instead of annoying think of it as a big fat FUCK YEAH!!!! 6hrs of 1080p on your head? Sounds good to me!!!

edit: looks like the standard battery only lasts for 2-3 hrs so that expansion one might be the G-O..
I got a fever.......and the only prescription is more cowbell!

Its hi def res but compressed quite abit
A true 1920/1080 camera like a HDCAM runs like at 130Mbps.
@12mbps H.264 or whatever codec it uses will cause problems.
Best just to use a normal 1920/1080 25mbps HDV camera.
