    GPX Electrical problem ??

    Hi!
I have been riding my little GPX to work and back since June. Have done over 14,000kms on her since picking her up.
I've always changed the oil and filter every 4-5kms and have just changed the spark plugs last week.

The problem that I am having is that maybe once a week (over the past month or so) the bike will simply die. I have been doing between 60-80km/hr then nothing. Engine stops, tacho reads 0 and there isn't any power. Then, an instant later she fires back up and all is good!

Doesn't happen very often. I know last time it happened I was going over rail lines. Bumpy ones. Maybe a broken ignition coil ? What do you think ?

    Thanks!

Haha, thanks. I was heading to work and a guy I work with noticed me there and decided to take a pic for me. What a legend! I'm just disappointed once I have my big bike I'll have to change it

Comet- You'll get there in no time! Do what I did and buy an old school super-bike to do up while you wait.

Nero- Connections are firmly screwed in place. Should I pull them off and give them a scrape with a wire brush or something anyway ? Maybe some gunk got between them ?

Can if you want what about where the earth bolts to the frame. How gummed up with chain lube is the side stand cutout switch?

Haha.... very gummed up. There was a point recently it dripped onto the exhaust and smoked for 20 minutes. You think it's messed with the switch?

You won't make it worse by cleaning it.

If it's cutting out on bumps also check the sidestand springs it could be bouncing enough to trip the switch.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

Ok so I cleaned the switch up (wasn't that bad actually) and gave the connections of the battery a clean. I suppose now I just wait and see if it does it again ?

yeh .....OR start up in neutral/securely parked....give yourself access to wiring harness, doesn't matter where,If you like start at the sidestand switch wiggle/push pull wiring. Now remember to do one thing at a time--if it cuts out/misses etc....check along harness till you find corroded plug etc.
    fix as reqd......
Test riding to find fault could cause critical failure ( the bike or you ) Try to locate problem before hittin' the tar!

Didn't give me any problems yesterday (I even went and deliberately crossed those bumpy railroad tracks again!) but will sit down with her for a bit and play with all the connections to find out.

    Thanks !
