Its soft as fuck aluminum. Nope the hole goes straight through to the pressure plate ballbarining. Current Thred size is 6mm.

See attached The part i'm taking aobut is the little bolt and nut which is indicated going through the clutch cam (Item 3 on the drawing), the clutch cam is where the thred should be Rs125-CLUTCH-Break-down-photo.jpg

Not tempted to have a go yourself just get the kit from cov's

or any engineering shop can do it.

be best to put an insert in the new one if its ali as it will be stronger and resist stripping.

Thanks Emrys, This bike is turning me into a mechanic anyway so may as well see what a kit is worth, probably won't be the first time Will also phone around some engineering shops to see what $$ they are after as I'll probably fuck it up and end up costing me more anyway

By insert do you mean something like a Avdel Thred Insert?

yeh heli coil, werts, recoil inserts there are heaps of them out there its prety easy if you got a drill press or you got to be cairfull not to drill it out on the piss. use plenty of lube or thread cutting compound when taping. when done if done right will be better than the original and would be unlikely to ever strip i put inserts in a lot of ali if im going to be running bolts in and out a bit.

It's pretty hard to fuck it up, if you have any hand skills it's piss easy.
Have you got the part out and on it's own?

Ditto this. I'm basically crap at anything mechanical really, and almost always fuck things up at least the first time, but somehow managed to Helicoil several bolt-holes on my NC30.

if you can get it into a drill press set it up square (as in, not drilling on the piss) and drill the correct sized hole. leave it set up in there and put a center in the chuck. the back of the tap should have a center hole in it, use this to keep the tap straight until you get the first few threads in. one turn forward, half turn back to clear swarf. don't fuck up the first few threads or it will turn into a crap job. enjoy

if you can't guide the tap with a center, when you start the thread, if it goes in a little bit pissed, straighten it up as you're cutting. if you try to keep re-starting you'll completely cross thread the start of it and end up with an ugly oversized hole. once it first bites into the metal, use some kind of square to true it up. don't tap too deep and try to straighten it cos again, you'll fuck it up
