    HELP! my hyo is smoking

I was leaving work yesterday afternoon, starting up my hyo GT250R when there was a big spark that came from in front of the fuel tank, then smoke came from everywhere. Gave it a few minutes then tried starting it again with no luck, gave it a few more minutes then got it to start. I figured it was probably a short of some description, but all the lights were working. I rode it home (about 10kms) without incident.

Any ideas as to what blew and if it's safe to ride today?
    Cheers

HaHaHA! I was wondering when that was coming. Sorry, at this point i'm more concerned about it blowing up underneath me. But it seems to be going ok and no more smoke...still not so confident on it though.

my mate had this prob..turns out theres a wire that shorts to the frame.
its not double insulated ..had the smoke thing but didnt blow any fuses..
one nite he was riding from perth to albany and the bike completely died,
total power failure..he was in the middle of nowhere out of williams..

cant recall if it was the wire to the horn ...but a check with a multimeter wont show
a short until the bare wire touches the frame agian...time to check wiring and wrap
some tape around suspect contact points..

he got the bike towed to albany and the dealer charged him to fix it even tho it was inwarranty....dealer told him some BS about it being wear n tear...

just check all the wiring in the area around the tank, make sure no wires are exposed,
bad earth somewhere maybe? or just take it to a mechanic for a quick once over.
