Unhappy Help - Where to get parts for 1994 suzuki GSX250F Across

I need help, it would seem that I was sold a lemon of a bike and now I have to try to fix it (didnt even get to ride it yet ). First problem was the battery, it must have been charged the night before by the wreckers that I bought it from because the next day when I tried to fire it up I got nothing. Replaced the battery - that is sorted now, but when I try to turn it over it is trying to fire but not getting anywhere, I am assuming that I will need to get new spark plugs but can't find any information on the net about where to get them. Also the bike isn't getting any fuel, I pulled it apart and checked that none of the hoses were blocked (they are fine) when tested the fuel pump is getting the fuel from the tap but not pumping it to the motor. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement pump from?

    Any help is appreciated.

Why can't you take the bike back to the wreckers?? Which one did you purchase from, they are usually better than that.

Spark plugs can be bought anywhere, you just need to find the type you need, should only cost a few dollars each.

Where to get parts for 1994 suzuki GSX250F Across

Hey Rosie I'm sorry it's let you down right from the start. It's not a lemon (in my humble opinion) unless the frame or forks are bent or broken. Everything else is readily fixable, but you'll have to use both your brains and your hands unless you have a very thick wallet

Good advice so far from others.

If you're ABSOLUTELY 100% sure the fuel pump isn't getting fuel there then that's the cause not the spark plugs. But don't just rush off replacing parts, use your powers of deduction, it's not all that hard. If it ran at the wreckers when you bought it then it's highly unlikely the pump is bad.

Read up this thread Across not going. Advice wanted and report back if you're getting any fuel smell at exhaust. Pull the plugs and if wet and smelling of petrol, that also confirms you're getting fuel. If so pop new ones in and she'll probably go.

If no fuel can you test the pump to ensure that it's not delivering fuel to carb, and check filter isn't blocked, my bike broke down on Sunday due to blocked filter from rust inside the tank If the filter is 99% blocked she'll start and run for a few mins then quit, then do the same again after a few mins. If she was in a wreckers for any time then there's quite likely to be dirt and/or rust inside tank. Rust will look like lotsa black particles in the filter. If so you can back wash the filter with petrol to push the crud back out of the inlet, that will at least partly clear the filter. If it's a metal gauze type filter then that's all you do, if it's a paper element then a new one would be good soon, but get her running first eh?

Undo each carby bowl drain screw and if fuel comes out then it's getting fuel, the pump isn't the cause. Catch what comes out in a glass, let it settle and look for dirt (just like wine!).

You can test the pump delivery by removing the rubber hose from carby inlet and turn on ignition, let pump run for say 10secs only. Catch what comes out in a glass, let it settle and look for dirt. If any dirt there then best to remove tank and drain it right down into bottles (you drink wine or soft drinks?). Then use a funnel with a fine fuel strainer to pour the fuel back in rather than waste it once you've cleaned tank. I did all that in someon's yard on Sun afternoon! There will probably be a fuel strainer inside the tank which you might clean out if you have the tank off.

If no fuel comes from pump maybe pump is clogged but still not stuffed, try blowing (with your mouth) through the pump hose to push any crud back to the tank, then repeat the 10secs ignition on pump test. If this makes it work now you'll know it is debris in tank and best to clean it out.

Parts can be found the EASY and fast way, at a dealer or any mobike shop. Parts can be found the SMART way by getting hold of a parts manual somehow (beg, borrow steal), then you unlock the secrets of part numbers and by googling the number and using ebay can get anything you want. Hey I'm running a 1983 machine and it's easy, you just need a little patience sadly the online "parts fiche" for a GSX250F seems to be elusive.

Spark plugs at any Repco, Supercheap AutoBahn will be quite a bit less than a mobike shop.

HTH, let us know any progress?

After a quick re-read of what you've done, first thing is blow back through the fuel pump using the outlet tube or another piece of plastic/rubber pipe and see if that unclogs the pump. You should be able to hear bubbles in the tank from your blowing. That may be enough to persuade the pump to go again, otherwise take it right off and test it with the battery to make it spin. Tap it gently (don't belt it), if that starts it bring it to an auto electrician to check it out. You shouldn't need a new one unless it's completely rooted. (IMHO).
Also read up on Suzuki Across fuel issues for more tips.
I can't find your exact bike, is it similar to 1992 Suzuki GSX 250 SSN Katana specifications and pictures ?

The guy from the wreckers came round and fixed it and took it away to do some extra work today. Turns out it was the fuel pump, when the previous owner had replaced it they put the new one on upside down with the fuel lines on the wrong way. Thanks for your help

    Exclamation Parts manual

    Hey Rosie,
If you want to be smart about buying parts you should try to buy, beg, borrow or steal the parts manual for the bike. Unfortunately yours doesn't show up readily online for free, but maybe you can find one for a closely related model?
That reveals the secrets of part numbers, which you can then search for online and save heaps of $$$. It also shows that the same parts are used on lotsa different bikes, sometimes the same part has many different part numbers even from the other makers, that makes finding them much easier and less costly.
The parts manuals or "fiches" also are really really useful for figuring the right way to put simething together, that would have avoided the fuel pump mistake the PO made too.
You have to be prepared to use your brains and also be a bit patient I get car and bike parts from all over the world.
    Good luck and happy biking.

The manual is available online, I think there was a chap on here that uploaded a bunch of them? I have a PDF copy that I downloaded that I can share if you would like.

If you're searching for parts and the like, try looking for GSX250F instead of Suzuki Across, that should return better results!
