    Honda CBR600F2 running issues!

    Hello PSBers,

Had my bike sitting without being started for over one year. I have very little recollection of it's mechanical condition before it wasn't in use anymore however it was running fine. Over the years of having to move it around the speedo cable somehow unscrewed itself and fell out and the coupler was run over which made it oval shaped and unable to screw back to the back of the cluster. I have replaced the cable with a brand new speedo cable now.

Prior to resurrecting the bike, i checked fluids and they were all of substantial level so a new battery was bought. After several attempts of starting the bike with fresh bp98 fuel, it finally started rough but smoothed out after 5minutes, there was little to no smoke from the exhaust.

    Bike:1994 Honda CBR600F2 80,000km

Problem:Whenever I rev the bike quickly (Even a short quick blip), the engine stalls, same goes with slowly taking off. I had a feeling it was the clutch position but on neutral with a quick rev it would stall. If i slowly rev it up the range it won't stall (Rev from idle to 10,000rpm over 3seconds). I rode the clutch hardcore and managed to take off up the road but couldn't get too far and had to quickly turn around.

    1. Plenty of fuel (5L of bp98)
    2. Hard to initially start but idle sounds healthy after warmed up.
    3. Did i install the speedo cable wrong? (Line from sensor to the back of cluster)
    4. Could there be parts that may be seized that is stopped the bike from moving? In neutral the bike moves freely.
    5. Intake air leak?

Could you please give me any suggestions that might help me get this bad boy running again before the summer?

    Any help is much appreciated!!

    Cheers in advance!

After sitting for that long without running you will need to strip the carbs and clean them this will prolly be your issue.

Had what sounds like identical problem with a Magna I neglected for some time.

    Changed the fuel filter
Ran injector clean through rest of system
    Changed plugs & leads

    Problem solved. I'd start there.

did this for many raaf bike owners in our workshop, modern fuels break down the internals of the carbs and it will never run right. Some times a complete strip down and clean with good carb cleaner may work but most times I just quoted the customers good second hand carb sets from the wreckers. I did for a time strip theirs first and try to clean but 90% failed.

In future if the bike is going to sit for any length of time please drain all float bowls of any and all fuel.

Ps, the fuel now days turns to a varnish like substance and blocks all internal passageways in the carb, it even eats away at the carb castings...further probs if you get your carbs cleaned and working may be cold starting due to choke gallery issues.

yep get the carbs out and clean them. once fuel sits for a while it turns into gum and stops things running properly.
