    Idle chirp??

Quick question- 05 ZX6. Runs fine, no performance issues. Jardine exhaust is the only modification besides cosmetics stuff.
During idle the bike 'chirps' very softly. I can barely hear it over the engine, but it's there. Sounds like a bird... kinda... Increase revs and it goes away.
Any idea what would cause this? Sounds like it's coming from top of engine. Could it be the exhaust manifold gasket or similar ?? Should I even bother with it?

    Thanks

27000. How could I check if it's the airbox? I'm going to have to pull the tank, aren't I? I'm not overly familiar with this bike as I haven't really messed with it before. I guess I'm about to learn a lot though, right?

Yeah it's very strange indeed. Just enough to annoy me now that I know it's there. Didn't notice it before. But now I listen for it so it pisses me off.

could it just be ordinary induction noise that has caught your attention?

my bikes make all sorts of funny noises that go away when i ride them more often, well they either go away or i don't notice them any more.....

If I remember correctly it only ever happened with it in gear and the clutch being held, usually at lights
If it wasn't in gear it wouldn't happen

Come to think of it the noise stopped after I replaced the stock clutch with a barnetts one.
Seems very weird but this is the reason I replaced the clutch.

No mine happens with it in neutral at idle. Don't hear it once revved a bit.... but that may just be because I can't hear it over the engine. This is with my helmet off too.
Might be the induction? I don't know. Searching google a lot of people hear similar sounds though I haven't found anything that really helps yet.

Mine has that weird sound as well but it's a 2010 model. Spoke to the guys at Ktec the last time I had a service and they say it's common with the your model and the current model of the zx6r.
Going fast is not a problem, it's the sudden stopping that hurts a lot...

Ah thanks for that. I will no longer worry about it! Wonder what causes it though? Surely not deliberate? Maybe just another of those Kwaka 'noises' you learn to live with??

You will generally hear a ticking noise until the busted ass piece of shit auto cam chain tensioner ticks over but can't say I've heard a bird sing when I start mine

Old trick for funny noises at idle, get a piece of wooden doweling, stick one end at various places around the engine and the other end against your ear.
It won't tell you what it is, but will identify the general area as it will be noisier.
A stethoscope is better but may induce sudden deafness.

    ay?

I use a rubber handle screwdriver with my ear on the handle I can pinpoint it to contact with a part, I also have a mechanics probe stethoscope but it's far too loud on high frequency stuff like vibrations, good for grinding noises though and clicking relay type noises.

Viper- Yeah I've had the CCT go on two bikes now. Always sounds the same. Always sounds shit. This little bird is different.
I will try and pinpoint the sound using a piece of wood/screwdriver later today and report back!

    Found anything?

Come to think of it, mine does chirp as well, especially on first start up of the day. I always get K-Tec to service mine and Kamahl didn't mention anything about this, so I assume it's normal.

    Sorry, no never got around to checking it! And I'm flying out to Kalgoorlie for a week tomorrow but will have a check tonight and report back. It's locked in the garage and I don't have a key to get in. My brother has it... }
