WOOOOOOHOOOOOO, Look what I just found, and bought one.
Seems well made and adjustable. Only cost $50 including postage. I'll be giving it a whirl on the weekend

There is no such thing as absolute control, only a variable level of lack of control.

Increasing my carbon footprint - one 500 @ a time...

seemes like a nifty gadget.
You can weld one of these together out of scrap leftover metal for sweeFall.
And so much more stable secure!
Yep, I agree that its easy to knock up something similar, and I'm actually in the process of building one for use at home.
Its just they are awkward to get a bike up on by yourself and bloody hard to store under your seat when touring.

I just pick the back of mine up using a car trolley jack...
Lift it on from the back.
It is the safest stand to work on a bike.
I made them for all my bikes who do not have a centre stand.
If you want an clip on and push down stand, then make / buy one.
To so called safe $50 and have a real chance of your bike keeling over and breaking $2000 worth or parts is a bit of a no brainer.
If you prepare your bike before you go on a ride, there is no need for roadside maintenance!
The massive chopper chappy was my $$ provider and he was handy with da archker stick glue them together thinghy mithinghy.
His fav was the aceteline torch brass monkey performance enhancing tool!
Me is now much more modern and MIG/TIG issa ma favv.
Personnaly I like to look at my bike exery 2nd tank full (not far on a VTR), so if I'm away for a weekend ride I'll do a chain lube and check tension the next morning before starting out again.
Preparing befor a ride is great and should be done every ride - but if your away from home......what then?
Or do you only ride for 1/2 an hour down to the local cafe strip, then go home again? If so your method is fine.
There is no such thing as absolute control, only a variable level of lack of control.
No , I do the "normal" kinda rides like Bindoon bakery run and sometimes a ride to Albany etc.
Before I set off, I always check my bike tyres, brakes, tyre presure, lube, oil/waterlevel.
They are all stored on propper stands so you can do the checking and maintanance propperly.
Also have 2 worktables for the bigger jobs.
Same with tools, you can only get serious with propper tools, so you got to get the correct ones.
I have been riding bikes for 35+ years and because of this have had very little preventable trouble/acidents despite my liking and riding of old bikes.
This "tip" was not to upset someone, just to get another point of view across of what and how to spend your hard earned wisely and not on useless/dangerous bitsa kit.
And if you are going on a 16thousand KM touring ride, you should know better!
