My awesome dodgy raceglass experience

I recently picked up a set of raceglass for my kwaka off ebay for $500 US delivered. 8 or 9 supercrap auto rattlecans later and they look like this.

Unfortunately my leathers are a very 1990's dainese job, resplendent with fluoro orange. Doesn't quite fit in with the theme.

How was the fit? and was there much prep work required, or you didn't worry about it?

Well done on the paint job. A lot of work went into the pattern

The fit was reasonable for raceglass. The only part that I couldn't use the pre drilled holes was where the upper cowling joins onto the lower, so a few new holes were required. Everything is nice and secure though. From what i gather even the more expensive raceglass is pretty poor for fit anyway.

The paintjob is extremely quick and dodgy, and I cut a lot of corners. Up close you can see lots of imperfections and mistakes. Because I'm lazy, didn't want to spend much money and its only for the track, i used the white primer they came in as my first colour. I then cut out a heap of camo shapes from contact (the clear plastic you cover your schoolbooks with), stuck them on eveywhere i wanetd to stay white, then primed them in grey. Being dodgy, i used the primer as a colour too, masked up more shapes, sprayed the blue, same again, then black.

I could have done it carefully and achieved something I'd be happy to use on the street, but it would have taken 3 times as much effort. As it is I'm pretty happy with it.

Did you use a couple of coats of clear afterwards? I did the same thing with my fairings and after the first outing without the clear coat I had marks all over the paint. I would recommend to do it, unless you want to repaint it.
But it looks cool...different......just don`t park it near bushes, you might not find it again....

Nice work mate. I like the look.

Just to compare, I took the the $800 HK fairings option off ebay but you win because even though the finish is really schmick on the HK ones, I'm pretty fussy so it took a month of Sundays to fit, almost literally - but the kicker is its not tuning day compliant so I can only do dedicated TD's/Racecraft, not tuning sessions.

The upside is that mine are street legal (ish) and look good, so I won't have to take them off unless I'm selling or crash (or get a pineapple).

I have had hong kong fairings on the bike, (link to photos in first post,) but they didn't fare too well in a lowside in the basin. Even though they weren't scratched up too badly, they snapped a lot of mouting points to the point where it wasn't economical to repair them. The raceglass, being comprised of fewer, larger panels, and beng made of fibreglass shoudl be much more crashable. Downside is of course swapping from race to street trim all the time

I'm not sure if I'm getting this right, but are you saying that they won't let you do tuning sessions with the eBay replacement fairings on your bike?

If so, what's the reasoning behind something like that? Seems a bit strange to me.
