Was posted up in the 'post your gopro videos' thread.

Any idea what the 'old' hd Heros were worth? Found a link to an aus site with 'heavily reduced' prices on gopro. Still at $370 odd bucks though. Can get the new one shipped from the gopro website for $384.

Time lapse, Burst mode, 1080p, 30/48/60/120 fps, 11mp stills, wifi remote, external stereo mic input(about time! Hide that wind roar)....

Went to check out the buy page, but everytime I tried the motorsports kit and added to the cart, the page turns into Spanish... Not surprisingly, tech support say, close IE check the language setting (just incase I had been reading Spanish all the time and didnt notice), and open it again.

    I hate computer techs...

    US RRP becomes $US199.

The retail price used to be $US299, but $230-240 was the general price on eBay, Amazon, etc. So, once it's been a few months and the initial demand is met, one would expect that $240ish would be the street price again.

I wouldn't expect to see too many of the HD's out there once the HD2 arrives. My distributor already shows them out of stock and discontinued. They are simply incredible, though!

We can confirm that all the old HD packages (motorsports hero, helmet hero, surf hero) are all being phased out and have all been dropped in price:

    Hero 960 RRP $259.95
    Surf Hero RRP $299.95
    Helmet Hero RRP $324.95
    and so on

the only old HD camera that will be continuing is the Hero HD Naked (RRP $289.95)

And yes replacing all that are the new HD Hero 2 cameras, which have just arrived at the wharf, and will be shipping out probably the end of this week or first thing next week. RRP for all the new Hero 2 cameras is $399. They have heaps of improvements over the previous cameras.

Ever considered taking that to your supplier with a wtf? Or are you making more profit than the states?

Wait a few months (ie after Christmas) and they'll probably be going for $US230-240.

Would be nice to buy local though.

It would, but the age old question stands... Why?

These things are just about bullet proof, warranty means almost nil.

I'd be asking serious questions of my supplier if I was trying to sell these within Australia....

I bought the GoPro HD Motorsport Hero pack + Accessories the day before the Hero 2 was announced! Oh well... for someone who hasn't owned a riding camera before the GoPro certainly does impress. I'm sure the original model will still keep me happy for a while!

Awesome little camera, mine came off my bike at the track yesterday ( my fault not the camera ) half way down the hill probably doing around 250km/ hr. Marty found it late in the day and I got it back this arvo, plugged it in to the TV and what do you know! Good as gold. Just need a new outer case as the mounting bracket is broken. Little ripper!

Yep, we constantly ask WTF of GoPro... Here's where it stands:

    1) the wholesale price Australian retailers get for GoPro cameras is often the same or even higher than the retail price in USA. That is, GoPro retailers often buy their stock at prices around the same as US retail. Basically that's the price GoPro set and we can't do anything about it

    2) GoPro set a minimum advertised price that retailers are allowed to advertise it for. And if retailers undercut it, they risk having their supply cut. So the prices you see from Aussie retailers are as low as they're allowed to go.

so no, definitely no extra profit for Aussie retailers, it's just that their hands are tied.

Most people I've spoken to have been charged $80 shipping from USA, plus any warranty claims have to go back to USA, so in the end you're paying maybe $20 more (in the case of the Hero2) to buy local, but you get local support and faster shipping. I understand why many people choose to buy overseas though.

but yeh, we hear you, and it drives us nuts too.

I lost my gopro HD in a wakeboarding accident, ordered a HD2 last week, excited to try it out. I ordered the outdoors version, since I already have the mounting setup from the motorsports kit
