    new radar/laser/RLC detectors

    hey all,
im looking into replacment radar detectors (currently run bel sti)

wondering if anyone is running any of these

    -ESCORT 9500 ci
    -Beltronics sti-r pro
    or
    -Stealth

    systems.

As i understand the escort claims to do everything,

the bel needs a "laser jammer" like the gf 100

and the stealth has awsome multinova range but im unsure on if it can defeat laser or how well it works against radar.

so does anyone have any of the above or used them?

Don't buy a detector based on laser performance. Laser lock time is usually under 1 second so its not worth detecting. Only way is to get a jammer, it can give you 5 seconds of coverage till you slow down then lets the plod take your speed.

thanks frost , im aware of that, apparently the escort does disrupt too.
but the beltronics might need another support unit to do this

The Bel will need an add-on module for LIDAR protection, but the Laser Park Pro auto shutdowns after 5 seconds - not sure the Escort does. May be something worth considering if the Escort doesn't - a constant ERROR display on a LIDAR gun may give the game away to the fuzz on the side of the road

Jamming laser is not a federal offense like jamming radar. If they can prove you are jamming them, then they can possibly get you for interfering with police activity or something similar. But as mentioned, usually you turn the jammer off after a few seconds as not to raise too much suspicion. There could be a million reasons why they don't get a speed reading instantly.

One of the best laser jammers that I've heard of is the "Laser Interceptor" - Radar Detector Tests and Reviews by Guys of LIDAR - LASER.

The video below shows performance of the Laser Interceptor on a motorbike - of course, it is more difficult to get that kind of performance on a car, you just need more transmitters. By the way, the E01, E02 and E03 codes on the gun are not jam codes, they just mean that the speed cannot be calculated. Serious Q:

with laser detection, isn't the point that they can detect scatter off cars in front (i'm guessing as the cop points it and aims at the car in front, while he's lining up and not on target yet)

(i.e., you don't need to be locked for it to go off, presuming there is other traffic ahead of you)

if they don't and its pointless, fair enough.... just what i've heard 3rd hand...
    stuff

Radiation is only emitted when the trigger is pulled down. Therefore you can aim at your target and have it lined up before you emit anything. Yes, you can detect scattered radiation from cars ahead, sometimes. The Valentine V1 has some of the best optics for this but you certainly wouldn't rely on it. The reason it's so difficult to detect scattered radiation is because you've got to extract the very weak scattered laser signature (laser guns emit lots of pulses per second) against a lot of background noise (the sun emits a fair bit of 904nm) - to guarantee that this occurs frequently, the detector would need much more sensitive electronics putting it out of the price range for most consumers.

nothing, it works quite well, had one in my 99 that just sold. so now am looking for a new setup for the new bike, and would prefer a hard mount unit,
this has a few advantages that everything is tucked away, you can easily use the controls and still see the display so no need for a helmet mount flasher.
the reviews i have read the stinger smashed everything but im unsure if it will defeat laser.
Like i said apparently the escort does but im having a hard time finding a review or more info on it, the bel doesnt have it so will need an external laser defeater. Astherically the bel and escort look very similar, both also have gps to give RLC alerts.
edit: also like everyone has said ive never picked up a laser scatter, only when they are hitting you direct in the face with the thing and by then its "game over dude, game over"

2nd edit just found a comparison pretty basic though http://kmphradar.blogspot.com/2009/1...rt-9500ci.html
