Oil, for the race bike
So what oil do all you racer boys use? Can't remember what it was that I last put in it but it was mean to be the "ducks nuts" and cost me $115 for 4lt.
So what do you in the know recommend?

Due to being semi-sponsored and getting an awesome deal...... Motul 300v
Prior to this I used either Motul 1000 or even when the budget allowed, Silkolene Pro4.
Personally I don't think it matters too much what you use, as long as it is changed regularly. Some oils will say they give you an extra poofteenth of a horsepower by using their brand, but your not at the cutting edge of riders yet, so keep it cheap, and change it regularly.
Some will say full mineral, others will say full synthetic. Use whatever you feel comfortable with. Some bikes may not like one or the other, and this can be noticed by a smoother or notchier gearbox change. Only you can work that out for your bike, and only then by trial and error.
There is no magic formula for oil, suspension settings, brake fluids or tyres. You need to find what is good for your bike and you, and bikes of the same model and same year will have different feels.
Tyres are getting more expensive. Save money to spend on tyres by going a cheaper oil and changing it more regularly.

I do oil and filter changes every second ride.
I wonder why most racers do such regular changes? The stuff I´ve read on oils says they lose viscosity at temp and shear strength over time. Mineral oil loses these properties sooner than synth. Neither should degrade much in a few hours of use over a month or so.
So why do we do the changes after 1 or 2 rides? Do we just want to do the best for our pride and joy that already soaks up all our spare cash?

I've been changing oil after every day at the track...
Filter every second one...
I use semi-synthetic...
You would be surprised as to how dirty the oil gets in 100 kays at race pace...
Drain your oil into a tray and put it out of the for a month or so...
Now drain the oil off and check out the sludge...

heh, yeh I would
Im not a shop - just having anything that does laps at the track needs oil changed really regular. By buying in 20 litre drums, it gets it down to around 10 - 12 bucks a litre or something. Heaps cheaper in the long run, and if your into bikes, you will use it sooner rather than later.

I dunno - Its the labour thats the killer cost - most shops are around $100 an hour - soon ads up especially undoing all those pain in the ass fairing clips/stays etc
I strip all that stuff off before I take it in

If you strip it all off yourself, might as well service it yourself as well.

Yea thats what I reckon - things like putting helicoils in plug holes, valve shimming and that sort of stuff - Id pay for someone who does it more often, rather than fuck around with it

Motul 5100. Using the higher priced stuff in a track bike that never has oil in it for more than 500Kms is pissing away money. Use a good oil, just not the crazy expensive stuff.

I use crisco polyunsaturated vegie oil and just take the filter out they are over rated. Best thing is after a hard race just drop the oil into a pan and BAM the chips are cooked.

You run V8 vegetable juice instead of petrol to hey marty, like having an extra 4 cylinders!
