Power Commander + Healtech GiPro + Quick shifter

    Is the above possible?

currently have Power Commander III, and the GiPro TRE + gear indicator, and thinking about the quick shifter. Quick shifter connects to the power commander but power commander only adjusts fueling, whereas the quick shifter retards timing hence reduces load on the engine so the next gear can be engaged. Will this be possible with the GiPro TRE?

    thanks

Dynojet do a QS kit that goes through the power commander to cut off fueling or ignition. I saw some on SBK Toy store, but I'm not sure they do one for K1 gixxers.

No you can't do it the way you say...

With the PCIII it depends on your bike...

A bike with only a single injector per cylinder the PCIII will cut the fuel...

With bikes with 2 injectors per cylinder the PCIII only looks after a single injector per cylinder...

So you have to buy the PC Ignition Module, the QS will then cut the ignition instead...

Should be, as the TRE just tells the ECU that it's in 5th all the time, so cutting the timing should still be taken care of by the PCIII and the quick shifter, as long as it's a PCIII compatible shifter.

    The quickshifter doesn't retard timing...

It kills ignition or fueling to cut power for a fraction of a second and unloading the gearbox...

Google the Annitori quickshifter. It's only been released a few months, so their website is basically non-existent, but they've advertised pretty heavily on the major forums, and are already getting good reviews.
It's a stand alone system, so you don't need other Dynojet/Bazzaz hardware, and it's an ignition kill, which is better than a fuelling kill. Plus, they use a wheatstone bridge sensor, rather than the microswitch most companies use. And it's only a bit over $300.

I'll be getting one for my next bike.

I think you'll probably find it would work fine on the TLRs, provided the plug for the coil interrupt is correct. Might be worth emailing them if you're interested.
I'm just holding off on buying one yet because I'm hoping to upgrade sometime soon-ish.

ok my confusion was that the quick shifter retards timing, unloading the gearbox while throttle is flat open.

as it turns out , according to Rich, i'm pretty sure my bike has a single injector, isn't too complicated and the power commander only plays with fuel, so it should cut fuel.

that said even if the quick shifter plays with timing, it actually cuts timing, not retards it, so quick shifter can work regardless of the TRE?

looks like only fits bikes that use coil on plug type ignition systems, so any high tension leads on spark plugs that run off a coil pack or distributor will not work. looks like i'm stuck with power commander.

    Your gixxer runs HT leads??
I'd be awfully surprised if it ran anything other than coils on plugs.

    edit: Nup, I was right.

Christ. Is a single paragraph email really that hard to knock out?
Would you like me to do it for you? Or perhaps come around and hold your hand while you do it?

this is exactly why i ask if it was worth it to shoot off an email. the following is a reply i got from them.

In all honesty, this far back with ECU’s, we don’t know. Older ECU’s have lots of problems with interrupt signals, throws the FI light. Not because anything is “wrong” usually, but just that it cannot understand the kill signal. Modern ECU’s don’t have this problem…

..and ignition add-ons 12 years ago complicate and only add to the “we don’t know” answer…

We can think of only one way to actually answer this… If you are willing to try, we are willing to work with you. Don’t think we are going to sell a lot of 12 year old bikes quickshifters, but in the spirit of customer support, the knowledge might be worth the effort?

Here is what we are willing to do:

You purchase the RL and shift rod; do the installation.

First without the “timing retard” add-on so we can know if this product causes a problem or not. Our concern is that with the older technology it might damage the shifter before we ever know if it would work on the stock bike. Hope you understand…

Then, if the RL works on the stock bike, it is your choice to test with the timing kit, so we know if there is an issue.

If it all works, great! You have a very cool setup for your machine.

If not, you only pay for the shipping of all parts back to us, and we will accept the return of the RL and refund your purchase price and the shipping to you; so we split the shipping costs.

    Does this work for you?

Let us know, or contact us at <email address removed per policy> if you have more to discuss.

    Thanks!

Sounds like it was worth the email, then, and also, wow, very good customer support.

yea.... now i'm deciding if i will take them up on that offer..
and where am i going to find the time to actually try it. i'm not so technically minded and the oil filter assembly on the gpx confuses me sometimes

anyone keen on taking this up?

the power commander's quick shifter is much easier, more supported and the local bike shop can fit it up. however it is still mechanical and according to Annitori, will not last if not maintained. still deciding now...
